???Chelyabinsk-65 / Ozersk Closed for nuclear waste???
« on: May 30, 2007, 06:38:14 AM »
Does anybody know any particulars on this?  OR, does this lady not wish to show me the environment that they actually live in?

Regards,

Macman

Just did a google search on Chelabinsk-65 and the information says that it is indeed a closed town so foreigners are not allowed in.  There is some rather interesting information on the nuclear disasters that have occured there that were kept secret for a long itme.

Chelyabinsk is not closed; I have been there.  I do not know if there is a difference between Chelyabinsk and Chelyabinsk-65.

It was closed in the past because the Soviets made tanks there and perhaps something more secretive.  I say "perhaps" because I met an American on the plane to Chelyabinsk.  He is a US defense department contractor building a chemical weapons destruction plant a few hours outside the city.  It will have high temperature incineration and other specialized treatment, costing a huge amount of our tax dollars.

I would assume that Chelyabinsk was selected because many chemical weapons are in  storage there; hence, another reason for being closed.

There is not a lot to do in Chelyabinsk.  The land is flat although the Urals are a few hours away.  There are many beautiful lakes, but that is about it.  So maybe your woman thinks you will not be impressed and could be bored if you went there.

Is this your first meeting with her?

Chelyabinsk-65 is a former top-secret installation. Russia placed its first reactors there. Plutonium processing, tritium processing for nuclear subs, a major producer of radioactive isotopes. Plutonium levels of the populace measured at 30 times normal.

Sure sounds like a place I would like to visit.

Chelyabinsk-65 seems to be about 40-50 km north of Chelyabinsk, which is not far.

I was told about past radioactivity incidents in the region many years ago; yet, no one seemed alarmed.  And three incidents are mentioned in this article, claiming the area to be the "most contaminated spot on the planet."

While spending a few days there I did not notice many mutations. When I returned from there my American friends said I had a glow about me.  And all this time I thought it was because I had a delightful trip.

A 1947 accident at a nuclear storage facility contaminated approximately 220,000 square kilom. in this region. They used to dump Strontium90 and other wonderful things right into the rivers and lakes in this area. There were leaks and spills and dumps and explosions but the Soviet government kept it under wraps, even from the locals. The water and soil are contaminated badly. This is not a good place for human beings to live.

I came across this link a couple years ago.  I think it partially explains why there seems to be a fair number of women from this area looking for a foreign husband.

We don't dump our waste, we carefully repackage it and sell it to third world countrys as McDonalds hamburgers.  Better that they glow in the dark than us.   ;) ;) ;)

Great Info guys!  This is exactly why she wishes to meet in Ekaterinburg.  I am still researching and I have a post concerning this city.  I even found a romance tour.  7 nights, 5 women introductions, 5 hrs translation among other amenities.
