When I started the K-1 process, a friend of mine who is married to a woman from Ukraine recommended a visa consultant that he successfully used. I enlisted this gentleman's help and have been very happy with a now successful visa process. While he's not an attorney, he doesn't charge attorneys rates! Obviously, if you have a very difficult situation, you may need an attorney, but probably in almost all case you won't. So why spend the extra money?
His name is Jim Phair and his business is American Assistance Service. He has successfully handled over 1,000 visa applications. He provided us with all paperwork and asked us to provide basic biographic information, photos, etc. He then takes and assembles the package and submits it to the USCIS. He then follows the process and has remained available to answer questions and concerns.
After you receive your notice of approval, he will send you the package he sent to USCIS and you then see how well organized his presentation is to the government. He then provides you with assistance on negotiating the interview process. When you consider that you may likely shell out $10,000 - $25,000 total for the entire process of traveling, meeting, communicating and finally bringing your fiancee' to America, the $485 he charges is a drop in the bucket for buying the peace of mind that Jim brings to your efforts.
He's responsive, works quickly and is just generally a great guy to work with. I give him my highest recommendation.
