A sweet email... Ahhhh... life is wonderful!
« on: July 25, 2007, 07:40:12 AM »
Some regulars will be aware I recently did a career change to minimise business travel.

My new role is based in my city with little or no need to travel, but after a month I've been asked to take on a new role which will require "some" travel.

I've been grinding my teeth over this all day and have asked for a little time to think things through.  I definitely won't go back to how it was because no relationship could survive... but the new role is attractive for a few reasons.

I sent My Girl an email explaining the role and potential ramifications, and asked for her opinion...

Her response was contained in the sweetest, most supportive message I've ever received from a partner.

Basically she said:

I'm proud of you;
If you need to travel I will travel with you before we have children (That's possible);
If we need to live in another city it is fine;
After our children start school I will not be able to travel because children need a stable home, but I trust that you won't be away from us too often;
If you're away too often I will tell you... and we will find a way to make things better;
I just want to be with you;
(and in her exact worlds) "I simple want to support you".

To those men considering this journey I can only say that if you find the right girl you will not regret it.  I truly feel blessed to be starting a life together with the most spectacular woman I've ever known.

*sigh*

Decision time... then negotiation time - again!

Kuna, you will have to do what is best for the 'family' which you already know ;)  It does help to know that one has a partner in life to rely on ;D

Isn't it nice to have a true partner in life?  I have recently been offered work where I would be traveling a fair amount of the time.  I was hesitant to accept because it would leave my wife alone in a new country.  Her response? "I'm not a child and I will do fine.  If this is best for our family then it is what you must do."  Luckily I have a large family that live very close and would be very supportive of her.  So I guess the ultimate diecision is whether I can stand to be apart from her so much.

I guess you missed that, Mir.  I came back to the US a couple of months ago.  Our plan has been to get my wife a US visa so she can experience the US and spend time with my family.  We plan to go back and forth for the next few years before ultimately settling down in Ukraine.  We went the legal resident option with her because it gives us more options.  I thought she would be here by now but we had some unexpected things that delayed the visa process (as if delays with them should ever be unexpected).  She has her embassy interview in three weeks.
