Luck favors the foolish.
« on: August 18, 2007, 10:47:42 AM »
Hello everybody. I joined this site several weeks ago and placed a short post to introduce myself. I had intended to post again with more details but every time I logged in to this site I was sidetracked by all the information and posts on this site. :)
If I had to sum up my experience so far with one phrase it would be “luck favors the foolish”. :D
From the start I was lucky. I originally posted my profile on match.com with no intention of looking for someone in the FSU. One of the first responses I received was from a “person?” from the FSU. This turned out to be a scam. It was a very poor and inept attempt. After just a few short letters I received a message that this person had won a lottery. This same message was sent to me 4 different times. My reply was always the same to this message. “Please check your message this is the same message as the previous one” The next new message I received was that “she?” was traveling to Moscow to arrange a visit to me. The next letter I received she ask for 50 euros because her lottery winnings were not quit enough to cover all the expenses.
This was either a poor attempt at a scam or I had been writing and receiving letters in my sleep. ;)  (if that were the case I wish I had copies of them because they must have been very very good).
All of this made me curious about scammers. When I began to research this on the Internet I immediately ran into the MOB business. After extensive Internet research and reading both the negative and positive I decided to give it a try.
I posted my profile on Elena’s models. Suffice to say that if anyone needs proof of why WM are looking for ladies in the FSU all they have to do is compare the results from my Match.com profile and the results from Elena’s models.
I began writing to ladies in different areas of the FSU. After a while I had narrowed this down to several very nice ladies. One special lady in particular had caught my attention. I decided I needed to travel. (With a little prodding from my future fiancé’s friends)
Please understand that the only other country I had been to before was the U.S.A.’s good neighbor to the north, Canada.
Flash forward to my first trip. I arrived at Simferopol in the late evening. I entered the airport building and immediately hear someone pounding on a glass window and saying my name. It was wonderful to see this beautiful lady waiting for me. Within minutes I was in a car traveling to Yalta. This was one of the few times I had doubts about what I was doing. It struck me as we were traveling that I could be going anywhere. :o
The driver believed speed was needed and it was a rough ride to Yalta.
Thinking back all this could look like some black and white Hollywood movie.  ;)  Picture this. Scene 1 a plane lands , it is late at night and it is a little foggy and misty . After leaving the tarmac and entering the airport I am greeted by a beautiful woman  with an exotic accent. I am immediately rushed into the night in a waiting car.
Actually if this were a movie about me it would be more of a comedy than suspense. :D
Everything turned out to be wonderful on this trip and on my next visit also.
My fiancé made all of the arrangements for everything on this trip. She did a very good job.
I know that a lot of people reading this can see how lucky I was.
If I were to correct a few things about how I did this they would be:
A shorter correspondence time.
A more concrete backup plan.
I was very lucky that everything worked out the way it did. I see now that there were many places that I could have gone horribly wrong.
Like I wrote to start this post”, luck favors the foolish “and I can see where I had many opportunities to be the fool. My luck was to find someone who I can trust completely.
As I wait for the K1 visa I realize that the easy part is over and that the hard part will start with her arrival. I plan to use the resources of this site to the up most advantage.
I would like to thank Wayne, Scott, Ken and Dave for welcoming me to the site.
Take care Russ

Luck definitely favored the foolish with me as well.  Those of you who know my story know that for one who did just about everything wrong, just about everything turned out great.

Russ, Where does your fiancee' live?  My wife is now in Simferopol but will be joining me in the US next week.  If they are close, it might be interesting for them to get together or at least chat on the phone.  I'm sure my wife could be a lot of help to her on the visa process.  You can PM me if you like.

I would like to tell a story.
It was the beginning of February and it was Friday(I don't remember the date, but I remember that it was Friday)When I was in a shopping mall I pushed one girl(not on purpose :P), I apologized and went away, but in another shop (about 3 miles from the previous one) in about 3 hours' time we saw each other again when she pushed me :D We recognized each other and laughed. Then we spoke and it turned out that we lived not a long way from each other, so we went home together, it was a very nice talk, we chatted like we knew each other for ages. She told me that they were going to have a girls' party that day because her best friend was going to America in one weeks time as a fiancee.
"Wow",-I thought as I had never met anyone(RW I mean) in my live(in person)who had ever dated a WM(especially an AM) But for some reason(I still don't know why) I didn't tell that girl that I had an AM.I only told her that I had been to America before and that girl was very happy and she immediately invited me to their party.(I mean that day was very strange from the very beginning, all that happened on that day made me think about destiny and all the things that happened later were very unusual of me and I wouldn't say that inviting unknown people to your today's party is an ordinary thing for most Russians that I know). When I was looking for that house I got nervous as it wasn't typical of me to go to unknown people's place and that party was supposed to be only for 4-5 best friends of that girl)and I didn't know how old she was and I didn't know what she looked like.I was afraid that I would be very different and got very shy, and I was ready to turn back but at that moment I saw that girl whom I had met that day(destiny again :D)and we went there together.

The girl  who I saw didn't look like I had expected her to look like.I mean she was an ordinary girl, like me, nothing special,  she took after me very much(destiny again  ???)and she was born the same year and the same month(wow). But the strangest thing that I had was listening to her and knowing her story.

She didn't speak English at all,she probably knew a few phrases. She was a teacher of Russian language and Literature. Last summer she went to an agency and left her photos and filled in a form. She didn't have a PC with an internet at home. She used that agency for translating letters. Her AM came to her 2 months after her first visit to that agency, it was September, they liked each other very much and at the end of January she had her K1 Visa and for some strange reason it wasn't for 3 months' time, it was since February till late July(I saw her passport with that AVisa and I saw that myself).

She said that she and especially her relatives were very afraid of her visiting the USA and she wanted to know her AM well that was  why she told us about the expiration date of her visa-she knew it was unusual, too, but she wanted them to wait till the end of it to be sure in their feelings. But she got pregnant in about 2 weeks after her coming to the USA, they got married in April and they both are very happy now.

well, strange things happen sometimes. ;D

Russ: You may consider yourself foolish and lucky.  Just be thankful for the "Luck" part.  You wont find a more generous bunch than these "OMB"'s (Old Married Bastards) here when it comes to clueing yourself in for the future.

Talk about stupid things, the first time I went to Russia, I got this hairbrained idea in my head that I was going to Russia, B/S'ed my way through the visa process and got on a plane. No language, none, zero. No phrase book or dictionary. No E-translator. No guide.  Nobody meeting me, nothing. Landed in Moscow, had two days there and then flew a fair way out into Siberia without return tickets.  As Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as Stupid does". I still shake my head about that umpteen trips later.

All the best to you and yours.  Hopefully everything will continue as it started.  We say here, "Fortune favours the Brave".

Good story Russ
I have just returned last week from Prague where I had my second meeting with my Ukraine lady, our first was in Kherson.
We had a fantastic time together! one of the worries I am forming about this site is that it can also make you a bit paranoid! I keep waiting for the bubble to burst, for all the negative things you read about FSU ladies to start happening, I honestly believe there are lots of genuine ones out there just waiting to meet a nice guy!
(go on guys!!! flame me about any girl jumping at the chance to go to prague!!) lol! :D

It sounds like you were looking at the 6 months expiration time. K-1's are good for 6 months to enter the USA one time only. Once you enter the USA you can stay for 90 days.

carraig,

I'm not sure if anyone will flame you over it but there's certainly a lot of previous advice posted on that topic.  The great thing about RWD is that the advice is there... the great thing about freedom is that we can all choose to ignore it.   ;)

I think the flaming usually starts when people give advice which is contrary to common sense...

You are right about the paranoia though...  but being paranoid is safer than being complacent.  You're also right about there being plenty of genuine girls who are just looking for healthy relationships. The challenge is to find them and then spend enough time in natural situations to get to know them...  and therefore the advice about hoidays early in relatonships.   ;)

Good luck with your girl...  and welcome to RWD.

Kuna
