William,
Years ago I had a buddy that was looking in to bringing an Eastern European girl here as an au pair (sp?).  Is that even possible in our current visa system?

William,
My understanding is it could be 10 years before sis would get here, sibling sponsorship is about 6 years backlogged right now.  Am I wrong?

If your wife really wants your sister to move to the United States, expect to play the matchmaker  ;) All your single friends and relatives will be shown photos of your sister-in-law and told how she would make a wonderful wife to some lucky man  :)

Wm,
I think I'm not clear on when my wife can apply for US citizenship.  Is it 2 years 9 months after entry or 5 years?  Even though we don't plan to ultimately live in the US, I think it makes sense for her to have the US citizenship.  She can still keep her Ukrainian passport for life there but use the US one for benefits and travel.

if in a still-viable marriage to a USC, the eligibility for natz starts 90 days before the 3rd anniversary of the initial approval of a green card or of any subsequent period of eligibility if the alien goes out of the US for more than 180 consecutive days.

Does the clock start ticking on the day of approval of a conditional green card or on removal of the conditions?

I'm not in favor of immigrating her because first it takes about 6-7 years which means she will be too old to get a job here to support herself and/or qualify for benefits.

Oh man, do not agree to something like this. It will complicate your marriage ten times. You risk that your family will be the only social contact her mother got.

Explain your wife-to-be that while it's common in FSU for generations to live together on close contact, it's different in the west. Explain that your culture would make such option very difficult and hard for family life. You need to build up life and family with her. Also explain that you understand that the closeness in extended family is important to her, and that you are willing to compromise when it comes to extended visits both to FSU and her mother to the US. However your core family must stay you, her and your children.
