I saw here that Elena's Models gets a good review, but what do they - or any agency for that matter - do to check the girls' profile to know if she is actually single? I read on their site that they want a disclosure form signed by men, and that's ok, but I don't want to get involved with a woman who is secretly married or has a serious boyfriend because they agency misrepresented their girls. Anybody have this problem? Not sure if I want to work with Elena's Models.

I know people who did well with Elena's and I know people who got scammed with Elena's.  Talking to a person on the phone rather than writing letters will help in the is process of eliminating scammers.  Learn a lot of Russian if you can.  Communicate with women closer to your age will help as well.  Don't fall in love with a picture.  Get on a plane as soon as possible.

I have gone to Ukraine more than 15 times in past year - fortunately I met my fiance on first trip.  Met her blindly.  I met her not through Elena's but she was listed there as well as numerous other agencies.

Plenty of folks here love EM. They are a warehouse site so depend upon their local reps to "know" the ladies.

If you want to be sure about this then stick with the small guys who actually know each girl as an individual and not a number.

EM requires the disclosure to comply with IMBRA.  If you meet a woman from another agency and your background has not been given to the woman beforehand, the consular officer may deny her fiancee visa 1-2 years down the road.  So EM is protecting you.

If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.  Agencies are not there to protect you but to facilitate meetings.

Besides, why would a woman already married be interested in meeting foreign men.  Perhaps to scam him?  Best to learn the keys for detecting scams.  There are a thousand things that can go wrong, and a woman being secretly married is highly unlikely.

If you use some common sense, you will meet some fantastic women, probably better than you are currently dating.  Relax, do not be suspicious of every possible move, enjoy yourself, yet keep your eyes open.  If you come across as a worrywart, sincere RW will not like you.  Show some confidence.

Don't rely on agency verifications. The best way to detect if a woman isn't attached to anyone is to call often. If she's too busy to take your calls, she already has a favorite man overseas or at home or she's simply not into you. If you don't prefer the all natural way of figuring out a woman's sincerety through lots of communication, you could hire a detective.

Well, thanks for the advice. I'm not exactly a newbie and I am cautious of scams - have never sent any woman money and if she asks - she's gone. But I was only asking because it seems that if an agency is a "good" agency, it could at a minimum verify that it's women are not misrepresenting themselves. I had a real problem with getmarriednow.com several years ago when I discovered that most of the women they posted as single were married or engaged so perhaps I am too cautious from that.

I can tell that I registered at EM about October 1 this year, and they did not contacted me back in any way to verify any of my information.

Why would a woman advertise herself at an agency if she was married? or had a serious boyfriend?
It would be to scam as many men as possible. The second she asks for money Elena's would remove her
profile.

A smaller agency like Richards in Tver might be a good choice. He knows every lady in his agency and
doesn't put up with any crap. (That includes men as well)

Elena's has two classes of listing for the women.   If a woman has a checkmark on her listing and the word verified it means she has provided them with a copy of her passport to verify the fact she is single and real.   Not all women have this checkmark but if you are worried about it then pick verified ones.   Most large sites will have a few scammers and Elena's has fewer than most.  Of course passports can be faked and with a scan and photoshop it is easy.

I think Bill has the answer if avoiding scammers is the most serious part of your criteria.   Use small agencies that are recommended here and know their women personally such as Richard's site and Kevins site as well.

Read the ten commandments here and avoid scam agencies we talk about here and you will be fine.

No woman who registers to 'scale up' will tell the agency she has a boyfriend or is married. And the ways of verifying in the FSU are not as computerized as in the West, so anyone can hide it if needed.
Do not forget that women will not sit at home waiting for you to contact them. Especially if they are young, it would be hardly normal if they do not have the occasional local boyfriend. Whom they might not consider as marriage material.

The married part is easy to know: if she is married, it will be recorded in her internal passport. This passport also records other details, notably where she is registered to live (the "propiska") and whether she has children.
