Famous Model Killed in Moscow
« on: February 03, 2008, 08:06:22 AM »
Anna Loginova was killed while trying to prevent a thief from stealing her Porsche Cayenne.

Here is the CNN article about the event -- http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/02/01/russia.killing/index.html

Sad, but oh so typical of Russian behavior.   Hang on to possessions at all costs.   She just wouldn't let go of the car.

The damn car HAD to have been insured.  And if not, I'm sure she had enough money to buy another one.

And they call US 'greedy'

I read the article. The fascinating part was the fact that she also worked as a bodyguard: "But behind the glossy images, Loginova had another profession: She was an experienced bodyguard, trained in martial arts, commanding high prices to protect Russia's wealthy elite. One notable client was Russian boxer Kostya Tszyu."

They also write how having a woman as a bodyguard is a status symbol and is not a first in Russia (first time that I hear of it): "Having a female bodyguard is more than just a status symbol in Russia. Industry insiders say women bodyguards are not recognizable and, thus, allowed to sit at tables with their clients during dinners and other events -- unlike their male peers who are usually forced to wait in the lobby." I imagine that as a model, she earned even more money than the average female bodyguard :)

Finally, the article says something about crime in Russia: it was not the first time that somebody had attacked her and tried to steal her car: she had successfully fought off another car-jacker four months earlier.
