Proposal and Traditions
« on: May 18, 2008, 01:38:46 PM »
Hello, everyone!!

I not sure where to ask this but I will start in "Questions to Russian Ladies". I hope there is some Ukrainian ladies in here as well. :)

I am going to propose on my next visit and she is a traditional Ukrainian lady. So my questions are......

Is there a traditional way to propose to a Ukrainian lady?

I would also like to ask her father for his blessing before I propose.

Is there a traditional way to ask the father for his daughter hand in marriage?

One more questions.

I will be in Crimea and in her home city on my next visit. I have been to her home city before and I have a place in mind to propose to her there.
I have never been to the Crimea. So.....

Do you know of any romantic place to propose in the Crimea?  (We will be visiting several cities in the western part of Crimea)

Any and all thought and advice is appreciate.

Thanks!

What is her home city and what other places do you plan to visit?  Once I know that, I can probably give you some pretty good ideas.

In Yalta, there is a small castle like building sitting on top of a cliff overlooking the Black Sea.  If I remember correctly, it is called" Sparrows Nest"  It was built as a private residence, but is now a restaurant.  It is a famous landmark, so just as anyone.

The Swallow's Nest is beautiful, but there are usually tourists crawling all over so it would be tough to find a quiet place to propose.  If you take the tram to the top of Ay Petri, the scenary is beautiful and would be a nice place.  I know a few who have proposed at the botanical gardens in Yalta, which are a must see..  I can't think of anywhere in Yevpatoria that would be good and in Sevastopol, the only place that would fit in my mind would be at Khersonnes, the site of some Greek ruins.  In Sudak, there is the awesome Genoese fortress, but not really a romantic site.  I would recommend taking the short side trip to Novi Cvet and taking the short hike on the nature preserve there.  The scenary of the sea and the mountains is incredible and would set a nice mood.  Since you will be in Crimea in July, there will be hords of tourists and this would be one of the few places where you could find some solitude.  Unfortunately, if she says no, it might be a long walk back to town.  :D

Good luck!

Thanks!!

I have seen photos of Swallow's Nest, very beautiful!

I like the botanical gardens idea, she has been there before and loves it. I also like the tram and Mt. Ay Petri idea and we will also being doing this. I will have to learn more about Novi Cvet....

Unfortunately, if she says no, it might be a long walk back to town.  :D
Maybe I should wait until the last day of my visit.  :)

Thanks again!

Is there a traditional way to propose to a Ukrainian lady?

I would also like to ask her father for his blessing before I propose.

Is there a traditional way to ask the father for his daughter hand in marriage?

Buy a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, present it to the mother of the future bride, and ask the father for his permission to ask his daughter to marry you.

With the girl, do the usual (on one knee, present the ring, yada-yada - she'll love it).

Good luck!
