Going to Russia in a few short months

If your planning on going to Moscow and St Pete in July then I'd make my hotel/apartment reservations NOW.  ST Pete will cost a fortune if you don't take care of this immediately.

In regards to airfare don't rule out using European discount carriers from London or Cologne.  German Wings often runs zero Euro airfare sales and they fly to Moscow every day.  Other discount carriers are very similar - you could buy a ticket to Cologne or Frankfurt or Dusseldorf and take the train to Cologne.  No way would I pay more than 900 economy rountrip.

You should be able to get there for about 700 if you pay close attention to airfares and buy when it hits your number.
