My wife seems to have a problem with opening resealable boxes and such.  Rather than looking for the pull tab, the spout or the tab on the top like they have on cereal boxes, etc. she will cut/tear off the top to get it open.  "To open, pull here" must translate into something entirely different in Russian.

Possibly FSUW are suspicious of what may be inside, and need to eyeball the contents to allay their fears ;)?

Scott,
I thought Lena was the only one "packaging impaired."  I guess not!  Some of the easy open packages she opens look as though she chewed it open with her teeth.

Another excellent use for soap stone is a masonry heater.  You can build one hot fire for an hour or two and the heat gets stored in the stone and it heats the home all day.  There is, of course, a Russian version of the masonry heater.  I am planning to build one in my home in the center of the house between the family and living rooms.  I had the plans prepared by a Russian mason who specializes in these heaters.

Does anyone shop at Sam's Club?

I usually shop at a Meijer mega store.  Does you wife like large stores?  What about malls?

We were just up in Novi and I took VWRW to a Meijer's store for her first time.   She thought it was great.   Unfortunately our closest Meijer's at home is 180 miles.   I would say Malls are VWRW's favorite place to shop for clothes and WalMart for groceries.  There is no such thing as a quick trip to the grocery store.   She carefully reads the labels and calorie counts on each item she could have in her selection and also spends time making sure each things is the best buy.  She is actually a very good shopper but no one would call her fast.

I would having anyone coming from Russia to US to read Ilf's and Petrov's Little Golden America, especially their comments about the food which they describe as tasteless and standard. Their comments about American spending habits are right on the mark (they complain about the American predliction for credit).
