Hello everyone, yet another new forum member posting. I am more of the type to lurk and just use the search function constantly to find answer to my questions but I figured I should at the very least introduce myself. I am a bit younger than most on these forums, I'm 26. I live in the South East portion of the United States and work as an engineer.

Well, the reason I picked it is because of my interest in the history of design and manufacturing of firearms and general military history. Izhevsk is the home town of Izhmash, Russia's largest firearm manufacture, it is also home to the most famous arms designer ever, Mikhail Kalashnikov. Next time you are there if you have some free time along with any interest in engineering, or military history you should vist the Izhmash/Mikhail Kalashnikov musem. The avatar under my username is arsenal marking the factory has used since 1928.

Hello Izhevsk,

My fiancee is from Izhevsk and I have been to the museum to Kalashnikov. It is near the central square area. In the basement of the museum they also have a shooting range where you can shoot weapons. It was closed when I was there, but they also have a second range for various types of pellet guns. You have to pay per pellet (10 rubles, I think) so it can get pretty expensive quickly. The target program I used was one where a floating target popped up on a screen showing an attractive woman. Each time you hit the target, then next picture on the screen would show the woman with a article of clothing taken off. Unfortunately, I missed a couple of shots, so I got most, but not all of her clothes off. Fortunately my girlfriend thought it was funny also. One of many reasons why I want to marry her.

Right now it looks like I will be back in Izhevsk over the New Year to spend time with her family before she moves to the US. I'm still trying to work out various visa issues for her. I have written about them in the visa section. Feel free to post questions. Good luck.

My wife of 8 plus years was from Izhevsk. I've been there a bunch. Mostly in the winter (go fish). We take the train from Moscow for we flew once and was a nightmare. Winter issues, delayed flight, unable to land in Izhevsk, and that's the best part of the story.

Love the city, the people are great, however for me at least there is a limited number of items of interest there. Do ride the bus, dine at the old restaurant with samovar outside (at bit costly but its great inside). Vodka always helps.
