More on Russian English translators

Thanks for all info re the dedicated translator machines.

Second question:  Does anyone have experience with add on chips with software to do this on the handheld PDAs.  I have heard that, for instance, you can get such software chips for the Palm One PDAs.

Unfortunately there are no machine tranlsators available for Palm OS. There are a few RU/EN dictionaries, and if you are interested, I can provide you with this information.

How about oral translation software for the Mac, OSX?
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

Sergey, we will have to determine if we are talking about the same things.

Yes I am interested in RU/EN dictionary, provided you are talking about something for Palm and not a textbook.

So please tell me what info you have.

Can be used with other system... don't forget read over the memory card support...

Unfortunaly, it is not really cheap :(

Really, a lot of thing exist, only need to find it... by example, for these with smart mobile phone, take a look at http://www.lingvosoft.com/main.jsp?do=products-view_products&ln=15&id=396&device_id=&submit.x=19&submit.y=18 for dictionary english-russian ( nokia, sony ericson and microsoft smartphone )... search for your device at http://www.lingvosoft.com/ ...

Maybe some can show interest in the russian platinium pack at http://www.languageteacher.com/software/russian-platinum-pack.html

Again for palm OS but dictionary... 400000 word/phrase ... http://www.ectaco.ca/main.jsp?do=products-view_item&item=1120&refid=2360&vTransferId=ESM4EYI8YW3VUFRDEL7RRSDQR

Albert,

There are translation programs for PalmOS.  Do a google search for Piloc and SlovoEd (I think thats spelled correctly).

I have a Treo 650 phone/PDA and will be loading it up before my trip next month. If you look really hard, you can sometimes find this software on the "sharing" sites.:P

Piloc Slovoed is an En/RU dictionary, not a translation software. We have tested several programs from Paragon Software Group and found several issues with their programs.

If you plan to use PiLoc for Treo 650, beware of the problem with switching from English to Russian - even the latest version does not support the Treo keyboard, so you'd get a mix of English and Russian characters when you switch to Russian. Also make sure you are using the latest version of PiLoc - the previous versions of Piloc set the phone to constyant rebooting mode so only way out of this is a hard reset of Treo.
