Fiancee's interview is Friday
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:04:21 AM »
Hello,

Yes my fiancee's visa interview is this Friday at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. I'm flying out in a few hours to be with her again and if everything is ok Friday she will be flying home with me in 2 weeks! I pray that everything will be in order and she gets the visa. I'm starting to become very anxious and nervous and I think she is also because this is the most important thing in our lives now.

There's only two people on this forum that I know personally, and everyone else does not know me, but I'm asking if some of you wouldn't mind, please say a quick prayer for us. We both would appreciate it.

Thank you

Prayers sent!

You got to keep her calm and be steady as a rock.  It is a very stressful time to leave everything you know.  Try to draw it out of her, and let her know it is natural.  She may have already told you, and of course may be just excited to be with you.

If it does arise though, it is not you and be supportive and understanding.  It is not an issue to take personal.  There is nothing to be nervous about, they just want to know that you are a legitimate couple.  Also, that you have the means to support her.

Enjoy it, it has been a long and stressful few months.  Make it exciting and fun.  Excitement is the counter to fear IMO.  Fun is the counter to anxiety IMO.

Do not know if I am telling you everything, you already know.  Sometimes when you get surrounded by an event, it is good to hear reassurance.

Udachi!

Carl

I would appreciate it if you could send me some details of what happens. My fiance is scheduled there on April 2 and is very nervous.

Best wishes for the two of you !!!

LEE08, best of luck.

The interview is a "walk in the park".  8)

Nothing to it (as long as her documents are in order).

My best advice, don't be nervous around her.

No reason for anxiety, Lee. It'll be over so quickly and easily that you and your fiancee will wonder why the hell you both lost sleep over it in the days before :)

I flew back with my wife after she had her visa interview, and at passport control at each leg of our journey (we flew SVO-PRG-JFK) I was also very nervous, thinking if a name was misspelled or a date wrong, they might not let us on the airplane. In retrospect it was kind of silly but I'm sure I'd feel the same way if I had to do it all over again.

Like GOB said, don't let your fiancee see your anxiety, project confidence and never let on that there's a possibility that anything can go wrong.

Lee,

The nervousness is just "excitement of the unknown".

In a very short period of time the unknown will be known, and you'll be so excited you'll just want to scream for joy.

Reading your post made me remember my wife's entry to Australia and her settling in period.  We had it very easy I believe but please be aware this can be a difficult period for some couples.

Be prepared, make plans, include your lady in those plans (don't make all the decisions for her... let her assert her influence on your home and life) and be strong for her.  This is about as cool as it gets!  Congrats!

Well I'm here, with the usual jet lag.
Thanks for the reassurance. It does help.

I would appreciate it if you could send me some details of what happens. My fiance is scheduled there on April 2 and is very nervous.

Best wishes for the two of you !!!

I certainly will! I will post Friday after it's over.

Hey Dave! I'm sure we both will have trips back there in the future.  :)  With our luck I'm sure it will be at the same time. ;D
But we're looking forward to seeing you and Svetlana in a different setting!

Update!

She passed her interview!! And she will get the visa next week. What a relief! We've been celebrating all day but I'll try to give Chicagoguy a rundown on what happened.

We arrived at the embassy at 7:20am and there was already a long line but they were all non-immigrant visas. She finally went in at about 8:05 am and I waited outside for two and a half hours. I froze my a$$ off and it was the most nerve wracking time in my life. Then I finally see her come out the door and she was smiling so I knew everything was ok.

Questions they asked her:

When and how we met.
What I did for a living.
Asked If she knew I was married before, the date of my divorce, and why I divorced.
They really grilled her about my divorce for some reason.
When was the last time she saw me.
What is his religion.
Where we were going to have the wedding.
And then asked to see our photos together, nothing else.
The interviewer then left for a few minutes and then returned and told her the visa is approved and would arrive within a week.

She also said that she was the only one that did the interview in english out of the 9 women ahead of her, mainly because she understood his english better than his russian.

Good luck Chicagoguy! If all her documents are in order and she knows everything about you there is nothing for you to worry about.

Lyndal,

Many thanks for the information. I have been trying to tell my fiance that it is not an investigation, it is not an interrogation, but maybe more of a confirmation.

You make it sound easy. But we will still do our homework.

CONGRATULATIONS !

I wish you the very best!!! I am new to this looking abroad for your other half. I hope and pray that everything worked in your favour today!!!
I believe I have met my future wife online and have done everything to try and prove she is sincere. I have gone as far as having someone run her through Interpol ( they gave me her home address, phone #, employer. I also found that a lot of my apprehension was needless.

One of the first things you need in any relationship is trust!!! If she is unresponsive or vague in correspondence, Listen to your inner self and don't hesitate to drop her like a hot rock !!!
Thank you

Brntodabone,
If she's a woman of character, she might just drop you like a hot rock regarding your
Interpol stunt. Where's the trust in that?

Lyndal, congrats to you and Natasha, well done.
