Not a new idea, that of using nuclear power in spaceships. The power generated and potential velocity are amazing. If they actually accomplished this without blowing half of russia up then it would certainly be a game, set, match as far as the space race goes. I remember years ago when NASA launched the satelitte bound for pluto which is powered by a Nuclear reactor, the public outcry was huge. This was even though the reactor wasn't even powered until the satalite was in space. henceforth, there was no risk at all in case of an accident. This is why the US has long viewed the nuclear power as something limited to deep space travel alone, ie a mars mission. I would personally be fascinated to see it as I am a bit of a space buff. It would change the dynamic of space travel overnight.
