New guy, started looking and got mixed reviews
« on: August 31, 2009, 01:04:37 PM »
Hi everyone,

Read a bit and wonder still if this is worth the time and effort.  I know some of you have been successful, but there were some other instances as well.

Let's hope for the best and I will ask my questions as pertinent to each topic.

Best regards.

Welcome and browse around. There are a lot of very well informed people here. I will say this. If you want quick and easy this is not the process as nothing about it is quick or easy.

Welcome roscat!

That math you'll have to figure out for yourself. Keep in mind it isn't cheap and it isn't easy. If you are thinking you'll save money or time over dating locally, think again. This isn't a shopping trip for a new puppy. There are a number of things you can do to improve your chances of success as well as some things you can do to improve your chance of failure. Of course what exactly those things are is what we members here debate more often than not.

If you enter this venture with a half-hearted effort you'll get less than a half-hearted return. It is worth the time and effort IMO but, if you are not looking to run the race to the finish line with all it entails, you are better off watching from the bleachers

Frankly, if I were to enter the ring only for the sake of finding a wife or partner, I wouldn't bother. Not to say it isn't worth it, but to chase women half way around the world is stretching the envelope to the limit. I went travelling first up for travelling sake and met a few people along the way which in turn led to meeting my now wife. It's a different picture IMO although it may achieve the same result. Am I happy? Very much so. Would I search/travel internationally for the sake of finding a partner and no other reason? No.

I would agree with I/O here and add that anyone deliberately going out of their way to find a wife on another continent is freaking nuts.

Why should it be worth the time and effort ? Success is not measured in money.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Time and effort can be a large investment in and of itself with money never entering the equation  :D

If not in money, how would you measure the 'worth' ;)

By the pleasure and joy I received for the emotional investment I have. All which is worth much more than gold. How do you measure that in dollars?  ;)
