Hi
I will be married in a couple of weeks and making the application for a UK visa for my wife via the  Moscow  British Embassy.  Has anyone got one lately?  If so,  did your lady get called for an interview and what was the waiting time please?

If you want an in depth analysis on how to understand and handle all situations, go to Liz Greene at astro.com "relationship readings"

Neil Sommerville's book is very positive about this combination.  Try not to be too restless, she likes a bit more peace and quiet than you Monkeys.  ".... a loyal, happy and contented pair ..."

My wife is convinced that:

She must change her domestic and international passports to my name before making the application to the UK consulate in Moscow. Agreed.

But she is also convinced that the Schengen visa which is until September 2010 and is in her current passport, will be cancelled due to the fact that the current passport will be cancelled.

My experience is that I have refused to pay about 500 GBP to get the UK to transfer my ILR in the UK into my new passport. I just carry the old and the new passport and they let me back in the UK.

So who is right? She says she will lose the Schengen visa - My experience differs.

Unfortunately rambler, I believe your GF is right, when she relinquishes her old passport, the shengen visa goes with it, she will not have the option of keeping her old passport.

How did you manage to keep your old passport? I have never heard of a case like that, unless you reported it lost and then got a replacement?

Hi Glyden,
I have about 4 old passports.  The US Embassy returned  the old ones after issuing new ones. They punch two holes through and stamp it Cancelled, but the Indefinite Lead to Remain still works.

I thought that returning old passports was a universal practice because it is ones record of residence and travel which can be very important in proving domicile.  Never assume I guess!

You mean your old passports are lost to you?!

Rambler

When you got married..... did your wife stated in her application that after the marriage she will like to be known as Mrs Rambler?

When a Russian National gets married they have to change the Internal Passport to the new status.... and if your wife has stated she wants to be known as Mrs Rambler than she will also have to change her International Passport either now or when it expires to the New Name. Be careful when booking flights to give the correct name to the airline according to which passport she is using to travel.

If she change her International Passport now to Mrs Rambler then she still gets back her old Passport and can use the Schegen Visa till it expires, but it is on her maiden name therefore you must carry with her al her married certificate etc to prove that she is the owner of that Passport and Visa.

My wife changed both Passports to her new name, the internal a week after the wedding and the International 3 months later when she went back home for a visit and she used the old Passport and visa to Enter the UK. Actually she was not asked to show her marriage certificate.

When she apply on the VAC in Moscow, it states that nobody else is allowed to join the interview. If she asked to attend an interview at the consulate I heard many times that the partner is not allowed to sit with her.

Your wife will have to answer several questions regarding you, place you live, work, family etc........as they want to make sure she has a legit relationship with you and not a fake one.

If she will be given an FLR Visa to enter the UK they will attach a condition that she has to prove that she speaks basic English and knows the country in a certain period. If she did not pass her test she will not be able to apply for an ILR after 27 Months, when she must apply for one.

When she apply for the ILR she will get also an ID card........according to the latest information from the UKBA. They have issued ID to most foreign Nationals since 2008. According to the latest legislation an employer cannot employ a foreign National who has not an ILR and ID to prove they have the right to live and work here. Mr Woolas and Brown keep moving the goalposts daily... and we have elections soon, remember.

Good luck anyway.

PS: Make sure you understand one thing, as you will have to live with it, that your Russian wife always ....... knows better than you........and she is stubborn like a mule!

Rambler,
Ah I see, it just sounded funny, because I thought that when you re-new a passport you have to surrender the old one (you didn't get to keep it even with holes in it).

Yes - otherwise her name would have become Mrs Ramblerova by default in Czech !

she will also have to change her International Passport

Yes she is doing that now

If she change her International Passport now to Mrs Rambler then she still gets back her old Passport and can use the Schegen Visa till it expires, but it is on her maiden name therefore you must carry with her al her married certificate etc to prove that she is the owner of that Passport and Visa.

Good - that matches my experience

When she apply on the VAC in Moscow, it states that nobody else is allowed to join the interview. If she asked to attend an interview at the consulate I heard many times that the partner is not allowed to sit with her.

OK but my Visa agent reckons that I should be there when she is interviewed and I would also be interviewed. By being there I show strong support and he had a case where two women were refused on one day but his client went as a couple and were granted a visa.

Your wife will have to answer several questions regarding you, place you live, work, family etc........as they want to make sure she has a legit relationship with you and not a fake one.

My wife is showing no haste in memorising my fathers name and birthplace etc. but I'm sure she will ....

that she speaks basic English and knows the country in a certain period. If she did not pass her test she will not be able to apply for an ILR after 27 Months, ...

She speaks very good English  but will have to take that course about being English if she wants to be naturalised...

When she apply for the ILR she will get also an ID card........

PS: Make sure you understand one thing, as you will have to live with it, that your Russian wife always ....... knows better than you........and she is stubborn like a mule!

This is already evident!  Ain't it amazin  -  her fav phrase when I am wrong is  ; >)  - " "There is no point discussing it ... "    But as my Best Man said ...  "But with those beautiful blue eyes I'd tend to forgive her anything ..."

Looks that you have not mastered yet the

Quote from: wiz
function......which is very easy

so when you want to QUOTE a text, then at the start of the text type the following and also at the end of the sentence the closing of the /QUOTE
Both the start of the QUOTE and the closing /QUOTE must have either side [ & ]

Then type your answer.......

IT WILL LOOK like the example in the attached image. click to enlarge it and see.

good luck.

And they are off ....   Our application finally got filed with the UK Embassy in Moscow today.  So - fingerprints were taken and the dossier submitted.

The recent stats for UK Settlement Visas are not too bad.
In May:
Settlement Visas   2 days   3 days   5 days   10 days   15 days   30 days   60 days   90 days   120 days
Settlement           0%            0%           0%       22%    65%        95%        100%       100%    100%    44 Decisions
Days quoted are working days.
The fee is now 644 GBP or $971.

It has taken since end March to get my wife's domestic and International passports changed to my name and deal with all the other supporting documents and translations.  You can only send packages to a Company in Russia now.

If anyone else has an application in for the UK in Moscow please let me know how long you are waiting. Anyway- it has been since end Feb 09 that I first wrote and spoke with her, May 09 was 1st meeting, June 2nd meeting, Nov and Dec 7 more meetings, Proposed Dec 09, Married March 2010 and visited April '10.   I'll soon go back - hopefully to help pack and move to UK.

By all means keep your eyes open for signs of a weird one but if you are reasonably sure - these girls are looking for action - not words.  Get with it and get it done.  If you have chosen wisely - why wait?
