Russian Tourist Visa
« on: October 29, 2009, 08:20:38 PM »
Hello everyone,

The reason why I am writing this is because I had exactly the same experience with one of the users here regarding applying for a Russian tourist visa. You see, I am planning to visit my girlfriend in Moscow in January next year. Last week I sent my application to the Toronto consulate and this man was giving me a hard time and asking too many questions and told me that I should apply instead for a Private Invitation visa. As I have heard, it would be hard for my girlfriend to apply one for me. Not that she doesn`t want to but I don`t want her to suffer too much. Now I was wondering which Visa Consulting Agency did you use to apply for the tourist visa? I don`t mind paying extra just to avoid all the hassles and bureaucracy. By the way I live here in Edmonton, Alberta. I would appreciate your advice. Hope to hear from you soon.

Arnelio. I've always used this company http://www.travisa.com/ Their claim is to provide a visa to anywhere in the world. I assume they operate for Canadians too. Quick and pretty good service the several times I used them. They handled it cradled to grave.

Good Luck

Thanks Faux Pas and Dave (Utrobina) for your inputs! Really appreciate it. By the way, Dave, I also responded to your PM. I have a few more questions which I hope you don't mind :) Talk to you soon and have a nice Toronto day! It's snowing here in Edmonton and the sky is dark. I miss Toronto weather! LOL

I cannot say if being in the US or Canada makes a difference, but you are applying for a Russian visa which goes to the Russian Embassy. They are the ones who issue the visas. I dont see where Canada is involved. The letter of invitation is, in my experience, really not an issue. I have used www.visahq.com , in the past many times and they write this letter themselves along with my visa application. they are great to work with and you can call them to see if they can process your Canadian passport at the Russian Embassy in Washington. You do need to register when you arrive in Russia, but that also is a very simple process. I dont see how your GF can do this for you as you need to submit your passport so that the visa can be applied to it. It is not just a stamp but a paper that is glued to your passport. At least that is how mine were applied. Hope this can help you.

Arnelio -

I've always used www.gotorussia.net for all of my tourist visas.  They are a little pricey but very dependable.  In-passport visa turnaround is less than 8 days.  I'm sure they offer services for Canada as well as USA.  Check out their web page for more information.  Usual disclaimer about no personal commercial interest in this company applies.

You should look at a local travel agency to get it done for you.  Here in the Peg , guys have used www.greatcanadiantravel.com with 100% success. The total cost with priority post and all other fees comes to just shy of $200

cic- welcome to board.  I used also "go to russia" agency and always worked out.  You can get apartments thru them also.  They can also tell you where to go to register when you get there, which you will have to do.  At least I did couple of years ago.  It used to be you had to have a hotel name (even if you didn't stay there) to make it look like you are a tourist.  Go to russia has connections with agencys that will help register you.   Even russian citizens have to register from one  russian city to another if they will be there for any length of time(usually 3 or more days).   with an agency like go to russia you can pay more for a quicker time to get visa.  They can even arrange pick up for you at airport.  GOOD LUCK- jj
