Define suitor? Is it possible that some of the women posted photos of themselves with flowers that a classmate or coworker who had a crush on them gave to on International Women's Day as all men give flowers to a variety of women on that day. Sure, it is possible. Does that make then suitors? Yes, if you were to define suitor as any man who potentially had some interest in a woman, though not necessarily a date.

Yes, I would use the word loosely. Any man that has interest in the woman more than friendship. It just seems a bit strange to a western man. I asked a random number of my single friends and all of them thought it was unusual as well. If it is cultural then not a big deal. I will begin to plant hedges of roses out front for my future partner

Ok, to clear something up-

Not every man sending flowers and asking for a photograph is trying to confirm anything or has some hidden agenda !!
I always liked a photo with my ex (when we were dating) when I  sent flowers !! why wouldn't I ?

Flowers and teddy bears are not the things that I question so much. What I question are pictures of women in hotel rooms, looking seductively into the camera ... often scantily clad. While it might be true that their sister took that photo while on summer holiday, I tend to doubt that scenario.

It's not that I'm going to pretend she has never been in a hotel   -ing her brains out with some other guy, but it isn't something that I think you should make your calling card if you're looking for some "other" other guy. ... If the girl doesn't have enough sense to figure this out, or she's too wrapped up in herself to be blind to it, then I know she isn't for me.

And by the way, this IS something that I've seen women from the West do (as well as women from other cultures too).

I cannot agree more with Avum.

it's clear, there IS a cultural difference in the dept of the "meaning" of flowers in US and Russia.

From the point of view of the esthetics logic, flowers/plants liven a space, add softness, make the object/space/ person look informal, less rigid.

If i were to send a pic to my potential employer, I would send one of me in front of a laptop.  If it is for a document-- no distractions whatsoever. If I'm sending my snapshot to a lover/suitor, I prefer  for the flowers to be there.

The more flowers, the better.



In Russia, if a man would like to show love, attraction or respect, fails to give me flowers, I would count him either a dirt poor  coarse redneck, or  a  refined, cultured  miser . Either of them would have a zero chance.

I am afraid, it is not the same for an AW.

Although my husband  never forgets about flowers for me,  I don't expect other men/ women ( unlike in Russia) to give me flowers.

I've seen them all over the place ... and as I mentioned, from all cultures too. I can't think of where I've seen them specifically because they seem to crop up everywhere -- so I've come to think of them as a "norm" (granted a norm that I bypass).

Now that I think about it, I know I have seen some recently while looking through singles.ru, but then again, you get outright nudity there, so they tend to stick out less at a site like that.

The way I see it is like this: When does a woman want to take a photo? Unless she is VERY vain she'll probably only take photos when she has a reason to, like when she gets flowers. If she is smiling the bouquet was big enough. If she isn't smiling the bouquet wasn't big enough. If she is frowing her boyfriends isn't....well you know  :evil: big enough.

If you want to know why all the flowers, ask. I'll bet the answers are as unique as the individuals.

Yes, the women who are nude are the prostitutes, and they are easy enough to skp over. to be honest, most of the women that I noticed, that I wrote too (the ones who stated that they were looking for relationships and husbands), had pretty normal photos. They weren't in hotels, they were at home or with friends doing the normal things that normal women do in Russia

I definitely have to agree with the responses regarding the FSUW's view of flowers. Most of the non-Western world holds to that same view. In fact, flowers simply aren't limited to just women. For example, watch a professional sporting event in Japan and you will often see the highly respected athletes presented with flowers. The same goes for other types of celebrities. Americans in particular tend to have a much more narrow view of many things in comparison to the rest of the world.
