Alex is young, give him a few years and he'll figure it out :)

I normally drink Cakebread Reserve and Casillero del Diablo ;)
A nice Shiraz or a spicy Red Zinfandel is good as well.
If women like whites I would suggest a sweeter German white like a Piesporter. And you can never go wring with the old Santa Margarita Pinto Grigio..... a staple anywhere.

For those who like good value check out whites from the Northeast Coast of Australia and Reds from the maturing vineyards of Argentina and Chile. Great wines for a good price.

Yes, it is but the headache the next day I would love to avoid. Wine and champagne is great, but I am happy with a Rolling Rock in the end.

Good local beers I shoudl try while in the Ukraine anyone?

Then Again, when you visit the FSU you can find 40% Vodka at 94R, $3USD, per 1/2 litre bottle. Choose your medicine wisely! ;)

It's a very decent white. I'm surprised it is considered a 'staple' in the US :o, I had no idea it enjoyed such a wide distribution overseas.

Here's some interesting statistics on wine (global consumption 2002-2006, estimates for 2007-2008):

A steady ascent in the USA, and surprisingly low figures for Spain.

Yes, one of the more common Pinot Grigios in restaurants here. Sauvignon Blancs are becomming quite popular over the chardonnays locally as well. Interesting numbers on the chart Sandro. The Spaniards are losing ground, what's happening ;)

I am curious regarding the market and quality due to last years dry weather in wine producing regions.
