LOL. I was actually entertained by this thread relative to the topic Q. It would appear much is the same with RWs as they are with AWs. What's right for one may not be right for another. Some RWs feel as though Amer's take is a cause for appreciation while other RWs feel otherwise.

Forget that the OP subjectivey asked individual's respective experiences - not what someone thinks of another person's post once presented.

From my observations this whole "full make up to buy a loaf of bread or dump the trash" thing doesn't indicate high self esteem in a woman, but rather low self esteem and in severe cases the lack of it.

Living in a large city I can usually indicate a "fresh off the boat" RW at the grocery store pretty easily. They usually sport full make up, high hills, tight or/and sheer clothing etc at 10am at Stop and Shop.

Taken to the extreme, anything becomes its opposite. And that's how you stretched Blues Fairy's comment about the "role"  and "place" of  make up in the life of a lady.

Harmonious, stylish lady-- WITH COMMON SENSE -- does know WHAT TO WHERE, and WHEN.

Thick layers of lipstick, powder, etc do look vulgar and disgusting.

But a stroke of blush, a light touch of powder, some lipstick colour, hardly noticeable eyeliner-- that are more a "HINT", than an elaborate  makeup statement---that's what differ a LADY of STYLE  from an  average plain grocery store girl.

Lady's perfume ( IF RIGHTLY CHOSEN, WHEN IT DOESN'T "FIGHT" WITH YOUR LOOKS, AND USED IN MODERATION) makes you unforgettable!   

Meanwhile, Pitbull, the ladies you describe  do look ridiculous and laughable, as,will  their manners, body language and speech.

There are ladies who MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK WORST by trying to look BEST.

People have different currency.  
Not women, or men, but individuals.  
If one does not know a person well enough to understand what he or she will appreciate, one's likelihood of succeeding, regardless of the sincerity of one's intentions, is quite small.  
But success in pleasing that person is not something by which one measures the overall success, or potential success, of the relationship.  
One measures that success by how that person reacts to one's efforts.  

If someone reacts poorly to sincere efforts to express care and affection, find someone else.
