Truth be told, the egocentrism on this board will probably prevent any “best of” threads making it unless they contain contributions from those 500+ posts members.

I am a 2000+ posts members... and i have not post again the C5 thread... and i have same asking more info when the topic was closed...

And until now, the only one "best of" is "The true GCG" starded by Maxx ( a 500- posts members :P ) ( http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/forum11/845.html ) ... similar to thema that the C5 thread...

Almost forget, one of my thread is at the top of list (Âit wasÂbefore these idea ofÂ"best of" )... "Up-To-Date Exchange Rates" ( http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/forum10/396.html ) ... so, until now, only two thread are a top list ( i didn't count administratif topic from Dan )... and one is of these two have GCG for subject...

So, these board is not so much egocentric that you think...
Also - there is ANOTHER way to measure the 'Best of RWD' - at least, in terms of popularity of the posts. From the home page, you can find a tab in the upper left entitled "Popular". I recently re-configured the count so that when one selects that option, you find ONLY those posts with more than 100 replies and/or more than 2,000 page views. There are fewer than 2 full pages of topics displayed now - and it provides a VERY good idea of what the board members feel passionate enough about to post/view prolifically.

While those topics do NOT enjoy endorsement by the members or management as official "Best of RWD" - they are clearly the topics which draw the most interest and traffic.

I agree with Leslie that emphasis should be on learning how to do things well instead of allowing the board to evolve into a disaster recovery service.

Just browsing amongst the most popular viewed ones, the "key words" I find go something like:
Deported....Ordeal....Age Difference....PhotoGuy....Lies....Lawsuit

Seems like many are more interested in the more 'negative' side of the pursuit. FWIW

Just some thoughts here.

I am all for adding success stories. There are problems though with these types of threads. As you know not everyone here is for success in this endeavor. A certain guy (not me!) and the gals from Antidate to name a few. So mixed in the thread can be allot of jearing and negative observations. I know because Donaz tried to post his love story on another board and he kept getting flamed, mostly by RW. Also many people have a low tolerance for mushy lovey dovey stories. So if a story like this get written then Dan will have to prune off all the flack damage done by the distractors and the writer will have to keep the saccharine content low.

Also I have noticed that for certain people this process has been a cakewalk. They have not had to contend with scams, conniving agencies, insincere women with a Plan and so on. For those who read their stories they my get the false idea that finding a wife from the FSU is as the agencies describe it on their websites, all sweetness and roses. It would be a good idea to mention in the stories about dealing with certain ethical individuals and how they steered one away from making a mistake. Bruce told me once an amazing story that happened to him at LTP and the help of a very helpful interpreter.

I have solved the problem with C5's thread, the problem as I see it. I will just put a introductory post and a link to it at the end of the GCG thread. BTW Bruno, I did not start that thread.

Thank you Leslie for your comments. I agree with you that "crash-n-burn" stories should not be elevated above success stories. I do think that a few stories like these should be made "Best of's" though. Guys should know the risks going into this. Then if mixed with these should be some success stories that are successful because an intelligent approach was taken all the better.

One thing I have noticed is that not all people process information the same. One guy reads a Crash-n-burn story looking for reasons why this couldn't happen to him in the very same exact way. He gets false assurance. Another guy reads the thread searching for information that he can make practical application to his situation. Adapting it and making portions of it fit where warrented. The DV trial guy above did this. Another guy just sees it as a pathetic story that irritates him. Usually though when I guy is in trouble he looks and digs for truth. His neck is on the line.

The "Best of's" IMO should be theads packed with useful information for the newbies. They should not be based on popularity and jocular good o'l boy "wasn' t that fun!" content.

The "Best of's" should be the core foundation of this board. If real effort is made with this then RWD will be considered a board of choice to a guy who really wants to get to the truth and steer a right course. There is allot great information here but it is unfortunatley scattered and hidden under piles of posts. I remember ConnerVT's post on the disavantages of long letter writing. Before it disappeared I quick copied it for my files. I know enough these boards to do so.

Leslie, in regard to your comment:

I think you have become so involved in mitigating the effects of failure that you have given up trying to succeed !

The Congress of the US and President Bush have made success for me in finding a RW out of Russia or Ukraine an impossibility. Or it soon will be. I can't go back to Russia and find a sincere woman for a wife. That door has been closed to me. So I have thrown in the towel for a summer return for this and will start looking locally.

And Maxx, what does this mean?  How are you prevented, or effected, from going back to Russia or Ukr?

Some things get missed on these message boards.

As Bruno's link to current legislation points out, any man with any kind of DV as defined by V.A.W.A. will be prohibited from using a K visa. I have a "pushing and shoving" conviction on my otherwise spotless record. It was in a civil trial (a quicky trial with no rules of evidence) that was initiated 12 days after I filed divorce from Elvira. It was her word against mine with no other evidence. She used this conviction (July 30th, '03) to petition herself to get a Green card (March 26th, '04). I am effectively out of the MOB pursuit as I have a DV charge on my record.

Protective orders or restraining orders, the same thing, are very easy to get. 100's of thousands of men and women have these orders out on them. Recently David Letterman had this happen to him by a woman who claimed he was threatening her secretly and in code over his television show. Amazingly the judge granted the order. It contested by Mr. Letterman's attorneys and over turned.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A state judge has lifted a restraining order granted to a Santa Fe woman who accused talk-show host David Letterman of using coded words to show that he wanted to marry her and train her as his co-host. ]

[size=

Judge Daniel Sanchez on Tuesday granted a request by lawyers for Letterman, host of CBS' ``Late Show,'' to quash the temporary restraining order that he earlier granted to Colleen Nestler. ]

Bottom line they are very easy to get and very common during divorce (used for better settlements and child custody). I suspect millions of them have been issued through out the US.

Jack Bragg needs to question his male clients in advance in regard to this issue to prevent them from going into a long, expensive and possible heart breaking quest to find a wife in the FSU. Wouldn't it be terrible to put together two people who truely love each other only to have this be ended by the USCIS and the past vengeful and greedy act of an ex-wife?

Maxx, I do have such conversations with men going on, or inquiring about our tours.

Glad to hear it Jack.

I am certain that allot men have had these problems and may understand the frivilous nature of many of them. Many people just shrug this off as the actions of a vindictive ex-wife. The only thing is the USCIS will view this a hard core domestic abuse and prevent these men from using a K visa. There are no grey areas just black and white. This legislation has not yet been signed into law but it is likely IMO that it will be.  So it would be unwise for me or any other man with a DV conviction to go the MOB route in the future.

Maxx,

Why wouldn't you go back to court and petition the judge to change his ruling like Letterman did?  I would think in light of the new law, it would be a reasonable request.  Before it didn't affect you as much as it does now. (Or may in the future)
