It is part of the British Citizen Test, although reports in the media have suggested that its not much of a test. Only have to speak a few words, just enough to get by so to speak.

Immigration is a very hot topic here at the moment, and it is something the 3 main parties are not really willing to talk about, or course that, and the economy. Trying to read between the lines, whoever wins (if there is an outright winner) Election on Thursday, will be making changes to Immigration.
Its an opinion, don't get too crazy if you disagree :)

Not so sure Handy. The British language test has been in place for some time for general immigrants but was not part of their process for getting a residency card for the existing wife as far as I was aware. Do the wives now have to take the language test during their processing?

It seems if David Cameron (Conservative) win the Election on Thursday they will
"Enforce English language test for anyone coming to the UK to get married"

Sounds like a very good idea and should be enforced.  Language is important and ability to speak will allow people to adapt into new country easier.
