I thought it was a joke. You reckon the poster's serious?

I suspect this poster may very well be serious  :(

The characterization of "ethnocentric bias" maybe off point.  It is more hemispherical/political.  Europe is generally seen as more liberal, and the further east the greater the entitlement history.  It is sociological only in the sense that our normative order precludes this as a starting point.  The larger point of low moral principal available in USA is not to be diminished, though I believe we still stand well in the world of fairness and justice (somewhat different than our agreed decline of social morality).

SJ, since you are closer to the mother tongue, I may have to defer.  Not to be too "ethnocentric" but the notorious "dry wit" of the Brits seems not to have interfered with you receiving my play on words.  Glad someone got it!  See how easy it is to take a cryptic comment and turn it into a complement.  Unfortunately, most first see insults, though unintended.

Faus Pax, I believe you have made one!   Conceptually, an invited guest may have whatever (as you suggest),  but that should be within reason.  It does not include buying the restaurant and washing your car.  Miss Manners would remind the yardstick for abuse is measured (and led) by the consumption of the host.  She had nearly 4 times or (400%) of his consumption level.  Plus, probably pocketing the tip (thanks jb, I am relieved someone expects even less than me, and here I suspect you are right).

A warning for us all, the local version of Emily Post like behavior may be puzzling in what it allows.  By any standard the one time abuse that reveals a similar future is usually a bargain.  I have suffered much worse with a smile and thankfully quick escape.

Semantics. She wasn't buying the restaurant, she was eating. I didn't see where he mentioned that she took food home. I do not know of any etched in stone etiquette here but, unless he requested she keep her order to a minimum and/or follow his lead on the type prior, or amount ordered she was completely within reason. If I invite you to join me for dinner and I order a cheeseburger IMO that wouldn't limit you my guest, to a cheeseburger, pimento sandwich or a hotdog. The invitation was to eat and unless it was predetermined what exactly was to be consumed or at what cost constraints, the sky is the limit, for the "gracious" host anyway. IMO

I got to the second line of the OPs second date and had to stop reading about this shopping trip.

IMO this is EXACTLY the wrong way to do things with a really shallow and superficial mentality to boot.

I don't even buy the orphan angle.

Being a jerk x 27 x exponential increase of negative story publicity in the "Ukrainian telegraph" will mean this sad and ugly story will be legendary all across Ukraine by the end of the week.

Guys like this make me regret EVER saying anything about alternative methods to meet ladies.  Mars.. please I beg you, go back to marriage agencies!

Doll.. for me it was the line "Could I accept her looks?' or however he put it... and then he cries that he got rejected over his looks.  No, he got rejected for being a jerk.

Since when does offering hypotheses equal to crying?

This is a trip report and there seems to be more personal attacks and chat than report and it's hard to read.

Mars, if you gave the impression you live the high life of 5 star hotels and restaurants to the ladies before you visited, it is there right to take you to a place that is within your standards.

If you didn't give any impression to the ladies how much money you have, then if a woman likes you, she will respect you and your money and take you to a place that is nice and romantic but easy on your wallet.

Your lady #1 did not like you. I'm not going to speculate if you're a jerk or she's looking for a free meal. Maybe she does want to find a man to marry but she didn't like you before she took you to that restaurant. She wanted to get the best meal possible from the only date she was going to have with you.

Thanks for sharing your story. I think a lot of guys who are soon to go to the FSU will take notice on what can happen to them.

According to the OP there will be either 25 or 7 more reports  Should keep the forum busy for a couple of months ::)

Actually it is 13.5 more- two dinners in each.
OMG! Again teeth, restaurant bills, pounds.

Frankly speaking, I would never (ever)marry the author.
Sorry for violating the rule " If you don't have to say anything nice- don't say anything"
Sick in the stomach.
"Ah, I grouped 27 women in maybe or maybe maybe groups!"
Off-white teeth, $120 meal, had to go to my apartment myself!
Poor thing!

Doll, we all by now know your position on the OP and his TR. You don't have to like him, his methods or anything else about him but you are being disruptive to his trip report. Please allow him to continue without the character assault?

Ok. Isn't it the discussion board? Like I always tell my husband when he wants me to shut up,"It is a free country, so I am talking!"  :blowkiss:
After all, I am Russian with Russian mentality.
So, what is offense  for you is just a sweet talking for me  :blowkiss:
Ok, ok, I am anticipating Part 3 (menu and pounds)

Doll and other ladies, Mars has been honest with what he is attracted to in a mate. He has been more honest than most people here. Some men like boobs, a$$, legs, or face. Quality teeth is important to Mars and whether you like it or not, it is important to you ladies too. You ladies are more picky about a mate than we men are. We'll go to bed with nearly any woman while you ladies care the genes a man will provide your children with. A man with crooked and rotten teeth may be a turn off for you and tells you he doesn't care much about personal hygene.

If we keep this up at this pace, this thread will go another 30 pages before he finishes it.

I'm not attempting to shut you up  ;D. But this is a trip report thread, it should be allowed to continue as such. If you wish start a thread on wail on his thoughts, methods and actions, go for it. You are side tracking this thread in a major way. Some of us would like the TR to continue and Mars deserves that option whether you agree with him or not.

And please remember that vwrw thinks it's absolutely normal for a twenty-something to want to be with a guy 35 years or more her senior, so her opinion for anything approaching normality is suspect from the get go.

Bit of a needlessly critical comment don't you think?  ::)

- Every person has a right not to like you and to call off all bets once they've met you. Prior statements that they can take time off are not binding commitments and are dependant on whether they like you, or not as this case turned out. This is just a given.

I heartily agree.

The "almost walking away" at the beginning? Who knows. The upshot was that by the end of the meal/date she just wasn't that into him, for whatever reason.

"Trip reports sans responses"

I was thinking the same thing.  By posting here, and doing it in chapters, I would think he was expecting responses.  And for better or worse, we will all disagree on some of the points made, both by the OP and the rest of the group.  Discussion tends to do this when there is such a broad mix of humanity.

I am guessing it was expected by the OP.  I hope Mars will correct me if I am wrong.

"I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do." - Robert A. Heinlein
