Going to Kiev
« on: July 14, 2010, 03:48:31 AM »
I am going to Kiev for a weekend in the end of July.

I am going to Kiev in a couple of weeks, to meet a girl of course. But at the same time I have also wanted to see Kiev for a long time. So my question is, what do you really have to see in Kiev. We have talked about the Botanical garden, and we want primarily do outdoor things.

The girl is probably too young and too beautifull for me ;D but we have got a really good report by e-mail, Skype, Icq and ooVoo. We are talking face to face with cam every day. I like her and she likes me, that is enough right now.

She has also dated a very rich local guy, so I dont think money is the thing for her. She has also dated some foreign guys earlier, so she knows the deal.

Before you get on your high horses about what i am doing wrong this time. I want to say that this is a shot from the hip. I am not expecting anything, I will go to Kiev with an open mind. I will enjoy my weekend in Kiev however.

I have the luxury to live close to the FSU, I can make a fairly inexpensive trip, to meet a potential girl, if it doesnt work out, no big deal.

Got my vote, I've always rather liked shooting from that general area, particularly where good looking women are involved. 8)

Well, she is a 9-10 even by FSUW standards and she knows it, and she knows what she wants. If nothing else I will learn a lot by meeting her ;) My goal is to have a nice weekend, hopefully get a closer connection to this girl, then we will see.

Simple things are the best....

Take a walk on Kreschatik on Sunday mornning...   :P

Stay away from River Palace

DO NOT EAT THE FOOD at O'Briens!

Try to stop in for a beer at Arena....

If you're so inclined,  consider going to Kiev Pechersk Lavra, but if you're going into the caves buy a candle or just stay outside, sit down adn close your eyes really really tight!   :P

There is an outdorr art gallery / market on the right hand side of Andrewevsky decent which I will be visiting in September...  worth a look for you too I think!

Have fun...  I envy you, it's a great city!

Going to Kyiv for the weekend? Be careful about trying to do too much.

I preferred the Lavra museums above the caves but they take time to properly appreciate.

A full day would be:

If you want a different view of history, check out the War Museum under Rodina Mat for a couple of hours.

After the museum, stroll the riverfront park from the War Museum down to the Friendship Arch (looks like a small version of the St. Louis Arch) then take the funicular railway down to the river front and stop down in Podil for lunch (not McDonald's, look along Sagadachyno for a local spot, maybe Repriza if you want elegant or across the street from Repriza is a great Georgian restaurant). After lunch stroll Podil in the afternoon or early evening, walk up Andreskiyi looking for souvenirs.

Have the evening left for whatever suits you, clubs, dinner date, coffee w/ torte, whatever.

even after 5 trips to Kiev I have never stopped at O Brian's. should do that one day if I ever get time. I should be back at the end of September just Kiev this time.

Where are you Diverboy?  Have you come up for air yet?   :) Hopefully, you didn't eat the food at O'Briens. :D

Okay, Jack, what did you do with Diverboy?

O'Briens food is okay, just boring.  Okay if you are alone and want a beer and an English conversation.  Many better places to dine (5 years ago).
