Vinnvinney,
It is a good thing that you have a sense of humor. I think what happened to you is very understandable and is a pretty typical experience, when having a date with a woman with whom there is no common communication with (no common language). Extremely difficult to develop any meaningfull relationship under such circumstances and limited time.

I love that recurring line that she used. I think I finally figured out what she meant too!
"Chew chewit"  as in 'choo choo train' as in 'move it, man'!  :)

That’s what I thought she meant the first time I heard it. But ….

chewt chewt could also be "a little bit".  hard to tell without more details.

…. it definitely meant "a little bit".

Conclusions.

Hearts Of Ukraine:
I believe Andrey runs an honest business and I have no doubts he has marriage minded ladies on his books who are open to meeting WM and moving abroad. I believe his agency is more focussed on dealing with communication than catering for WM who arrive in Sumy. That’s probably not his fault as I got the impression not too many clients make it there for actual meetings.

It appears that not so many ladies speak English compared to other agencies I have used in different parts of Ukraine. Again, this is not Andrey’s problem, but it was one for me.

The cost of my airport transfer seemed ‘reasonable’ ($170 each way) and I appreciated the fact that he trusted me and sent a driver without me providing any deposit. He also was happy (at his request) to waver the meeting fee with Olga as compensation for my aborted meeting with Sveta. I insisted on paying but it gave me a good insight into his ethics.

The apartment I rented from them (number 5) was excellent. Large and modern in a great location. There was a notebook with Internet connection, air conditioning and constant hot water. The kitchen was well fitted and instead of the 1 toilet roll you usually find, there was a years supply. :D

Sumy:
A dour place compared to many other cities in Ukraine. Hardly anyone speaks English, no English menu’s anywhere, no ‘eye candy’ and quite a few children roaming the café’s begging. Much more relevant to me was I couldn't escape from thinking how unhappy and miserable people looked. Some guys might not have a problem with any of this … good luck to them.

Olga:
Super girl with a great heart, I think she deserves better than me.

I am aware that the path for a lady from the FSU to arrive in England with her child is a rocky one, and (as observed by Glyden) coupled with the fact that she doesn’t speak any English, and our verbal communication was minimal, makes it one that I cannot envisage I would travel with her. I wish her great luck for the future.

…. Keeping my soul and my senses apart
Somethings gotten into my life
Cutting its way, my dreams like a knife
Turning me up, turning me down
Making me smile, making me frown

Can someone please tell me:  How do you get 2 or more quotes from different people to show up in one reply, as exampled in this TR several times?

:offtopic:  If you want to do exactly 2 quotes, quote the first one, copy it and then go back to the thread and quote the 2nd one.  Into the 2nd quote paste the quote that you copied and edit as needed and add your comments. Otherwise open RWD twice and from one RWD copy the needed quotes and paste into the other RWD for your posting, edit and add comments as needed.

Poisinally, I think you should give up your search for a woman Vinny and just concentrate on writing trip reports!

I'm sure there must be a market for it somewhere and you're sure to make a killing when you find it.  ;D

OK acctBill, I will try your method for the first time.  Will see how it  turns out.

It does work.  So thanks much acctBill.  I guess everyone knew how to do this but me.

Quite a statement!!  So you are saying you deserve a lower quality of woman?
Or are you saying you have too many problems in your own life to foist on her?
But won't these same factors apply to any woman you meet?

Or were you actually just being playfully flippant with your remark?

I have seen a few pole positions in my line of work but the best was in a club where they had poles on the dance floor. This one women had the perfect position on the pole. I can still see that pole position in my head.
thats what i first thought when i read "pole position"  :o its the only pole i could think of. Still not sure how pole can apply to racing?

This was the only newly married couple I saw who didn’t appear to have their class friends and teachers at the ceremony. The young lady to the left looked rather nice. I took an instant dislike to her chap though, I don’t know why. This was about the 30th pose the none getting married couple had made. I think the groom was starting to get angry but, fair praise to him, except for clenching his left fist, he didn’t hit anyone. The groom was only one I saw that day who wasn’t wearing a cream suit with matching shoes.

This geezer was loitering around in park number 2. I don’t know who he was or why he was there but I presumed that he had been forced to live the outdoor life because of his constant whistling.

I believe the story behind these fellows is that some years previously the chap on the right got turned to 'stone' for attempting a smile by a Babushka who, little it be known, had a trick or two up her sleeve. The other two guys being close buddies decided to stand in defiance with their chum. Apparently the plan was that they would only suffer this fate for a couple of hours but the elderly lady had Alzheimer’s, went home and completely forgot about them.

Before getting shot for being in an ‘Art’ college without the necessary paperwork.  Olga suggested I should have my photo taken next to one of the campus buggies so my folks back home could rest in the pleasure of knowing that, before I went to pastures new, I had a smile on my face.

A chapel which was part of the blue/green church where I didn’t meet Mrs Vinny3 outside. The rags office was across the street and the newly weds would crossover for photos, shortly before walking past the divorce office which (ironically) wasn't too far away.

Vinny nice photos and a great sense of humour.  I really think that with your obviously great personality you would have no problem finding a wife if you spoke more Russian.  I'm not saying you have to be fluent but if you could carry on at least a limited conversation the woman would then feel more confident in her ability with her limited English.  Either that or stick with women who are fluent in English, which does take away some of the excitement.   :)

Speaking Russian does little except to widen your pool for consideration. instead of a few thousand choices you may have a few thousand more. If you are convinced the language barrier is a hurting you, then raise the search parameter bar to where it doesn't.

You seem well aware that your standards are the most critical factor affecting finding the right gal, which is certainly as it should be in the world. It's your relationship, not the peanut gallery's.

Keep your standards and stay chipper. Even if your idea of Mrs. Right is unattainable, you're doing what you wish and as long as you're honest with them (and yourself) then there's no harm, no foul. Just don't complain about being unable to find the right gal (you don't seem to so kudos to you!).
Pick and choose carefully among the advice offered and consider the source carefully. PM, Skype or email if you care to chat or discuss

Speaking Russian not only widens your pool of available women but it makes those women that you end up dating feel more comfortable in your presence.  If you learn some of the language you will also learn more about the customs and food which will give you a greater understanding of your potential wife's way of life.

After all if she becomes your wife you'll be asking her to move to the UK,  speak English and watch football.  :)  Perhaps you'll want her to learn to cook such delicacies as bangers and mash, pork pies or Yorkshire pudding.  My Russian wife learned how to make naan bread and tandoori chicken, hardly a typical English meal but Indian food is popular in England.

Perhaps, I don't necessarily see this though.

If you learn some of the language you will also learn more about the customs and food which will give you a greater understanding of your potential wife's way of life.

Same as above.

Not bloody likely..... Mine's learning about southern-style grits, salad bars, pancakes and hot, toasted American sandwiches and Russian has nothing to do with the process.

Sorry with the food reference I was referring to Vinny. My point was that if the RW is going to make such big changes to her way by moving to a different country, learning/improving her English and just in general having her life turned upside down then if the WM learns her language, Russian, Ukrainian etc, it will make her transition easier and give them something important in common.

Cheers Ed as always for the words of support. I maybe doing most things wrong in this pursuit but I know what I want and if I dont get it then that's my problem, no complaints. ;)
