Just a FWIW here to give things a little perspective; my wife's written English when we first started to communicate easily put a lot of native speakers here to shame...

Welcome ladysurf and beachboy..!!

Personally if i was interested in someone on such sites ,
I would follow through and correspond and meet with them.

In fact  have,
and currently date someone listed on such websites..

it's why, i used words and phrases like *likely*  instead of *absolutely*
and mentioned if he was into her same hobbies and likes ,he might  win her heart ..

Still this would never change my general advice to  dilbert ,or any mans general and vague questions regarding HRB...

Most women video chatting on HRB , are likely paid to do so

  Welcome ladysurf.
So you met your man on HRB but you say it is all broken now because to much was against us. Care to elaborate? Did you actually meet the man in person?

As Vaughn mentioned, and to which AJ somewhat alluded, HRB doesn't have a great reputation as being an agency which actually has a lot of success bringing couples together for marriage.  So, you can shed some light on a few conceptions and/or misconceptions if you would care to LadySurf..

---

Do you (or any ladies) give out your contact information so that someone can contact you outside HRB  via skype/phone/email (after you know them better of course) or is all communication strictly limited to emails and chats through HRB?

Do you and/or other ladies actually get paid a commission to video chat with guys?

Are you required by HRB to meet a guy who comes to Sevastopol and wants to meet you?

Are guys required to use HRB interpreters when/if they do meet someone in person?  And, with your English skills, are you a translator/interpreter for HRB?

Did you sign up directly with HRB or did you join through a local independent agency in Sevastopol?

Perhaps it seems like many pointed questions, but as mentioned, HRB in particular doesn't have a great reputation and you could possibly clarify some details.

Welcome aboard and jump into discussions anywhere you feel comfortable.

Hi , Dave.... here are answers for your questions!!!
Do you (or any ladies) give out your contact information so that someone can contact you outside HRB  via skype/phone/email (after you know them better of course) or is all communication strictly limited to emails and chats through HRB?

-Yes. Our agency approves IntimacRequest - exchange of private info if lady agrees to talk to a man not on site only... it is normally happening this way. As for me, I usually discuss it in chat and never approve it from smb I don't know.... Takes about 24 hours to approve it and all filters from chat disappear after agreement paper scanned copy reaches the administration of the agency in USa if I am not mistaken! So you can exchange phone numbers, skype or any other contact info.....

Do you and/or other ladies actually get paid a commission to video chat with guys?

- I am not paid for... don't even know where our office of the agency is located coz usually Ia m online from my office or home... never spent a day in the agency.

Are you required by HRB to meet a guy who comes to Sevastopol and wants to meet you?

- I am not obligged to meet anyone I don't want to if you mean this!

Are guys required to use HRB interpreters when/if they do meet someone in person?  And, with your English skills, are you a translator/interpreter for HRB?

 - I had never worked as interpreter in our agency, but if they ask me to help I would happily do it for few hours if it is urgent and they don't have anyone to translate a meeting for example.

Did you sign up directly with HRB or did you join through a local independent agency in Sevastopol?

- I placed my profile with a help of Orchid agency, but changed to another because of some reasons

Perhaps it seems like many pointed questions, but as mentioned, HRB in particular doesn't have a great reputation and you could possibly clarify some details.

Ask as man questions as you wish, but I am not online hee pretty often, so ther emight be delays with my letters back.... deal:)))))????

Ladysurf,

welcome again. Your English looks somewhat successfully "distressed" this time.

But your effort doesn't seem to be giving the desired result. Your omitting the articles and changing the spelling of words  Russian speakers usually DON'T find problems with, only tells me you don't know how the Russian language is interfering with the learning process.

At the same time, certain structures ( will not  tell you which) are hardly ever used by Russian speakers ACTIVELY.  At least by those who didn't learn the language professionally. Yet, you are using them so naturally... Kudos ! Do you have tens of years of interpretation/ translation experience for international corporations?

You never replied to my question about your ALMA MATER.

Please, tell us what text books you used while "learning" English .

Communication with native speakers of the language that you are talking about doesn't help that much, unless you LEARN   and consistently using the structures as grammatical UNITS. Many foreigners would live for more than ten years in a country of the language in question, yet,  they never use correct grammar and educated version of the language unless they LEARN IT.  It takes to have 7 classes a week,  during  5-6 years,  with a native PROFESSIONAL teacher of English ( of Harvard fame) to teach you the level you are demonstrating.

Did your native English teacher work pro-bono? In Moscow, a similar private  class costs $100. This is first hand info here.

You seem to be coming of a wealthy family then.

Ladysurf, alas, when you were trying to " distress" your English, you didn't take   into account the source language interference, and its inevitable effect on the command of the Target language.

Luda,

You are obviously suspicious that something is not what it seems to be. Rather than be coy - maybe just ask the person directly, and without any unnecessary fanfare of games, to confirm/refute your suspicions?

For my part, I intentionally try to NOT 'read between the lines' and I take people at face value. If they manage to 'get one over on me' (and they do) - well, if it is important I will take away the appropriate lessons. If it is unimportant, then . . . it is UNIMPORTANT and no matter.

Let's give everyone - and ESPECIALLY new members - the benefit of the doubt and do our best to help them feel welcomed.

- Dan

Dan, I agree . Anyone should have a chance to opine, make statements, assumptions, express doubt, be positive or negative, object , agree, etc. I am glad that you care to mention it.

Please, give me an  example of "fanfare of games". Anyone can express their thoughts, as well as  suspicions, as long as they sound decent and respectful.

When you're saying you are not trying to read between the lines, it's only natural of you as an admin. Your goal, as an admin, and mine, as a member is, obviously, not  the same, don't you  think so?

As to helping them feel welcomed,  I am all for it.  It is these very situations that give freshness to the routine of a  forum.  It is the DIALOGUE, a POINT OF VEIW,  an OPINION that  we come here for. In my understanding.

Do you actually believe that your posts to this new girl were even close to "decent and respectful"? Seriously, they would be more so if you threw in some explicit insults and were direct - at least then you'd have the decency to be open with your accusations.

When you're saying you are not trying to read between the lines, it's only natural of you as an admin. Your goal, as an admin, and mine, as a member is, obviously, not  the same, don't you  think so?

Trying to draw conclusions about someone based on how they use a foreign language in a few posts is at best silly. Even assuming there's some funny business going on, you'd be right for entirely the wrong reasons.  :rolleyes2:

Here's another FWIW for you; except for the standard school curriculum, my wife's English was entirely self taught and it is, and was when I met her, a damn sight better than yours.

Ludmila, I appreciate your compliments about my knowledge of English.... it is true I managed it after long and hard work ... I also worked as interpreter for a tourist company and had chance to travel around some European countries. If you hesitate about me, please send me private message, I will send you my skype name and you talk to me and see me, we can speak both russian or eglish, just need to arrange time. And no, I am not from a wealthy family... my father died of brain cancer when I was a small girl, my brother was even younger, at the same time my grandpa we lived with, died in a car accident and to be open, all my mother earned she spend on my brother's and my education and I am very grateful for doors she opened to both of us!!! Again, I am not offended by your question, I just want you to see me, let's jus arrange time and day when you have chance to see me and talk to me and then I would ask you to write your comments about what you have found out... deal???

everybody has a point of view... this is a place where people leave them... so I am not offended with you, Ludmila.... coz I know you are mistaken abt me and I can easily prove it... so waiting for your message and invitation to skype for few min... hours... as long as you want :))) hope you will be in better mood :))))

To amplify Possum's explanation, the expression probably derives from the motto of our University of Bologna, the oldest continually operating university in the world (founded in 1088):

The Latin motto means: Nourishing Mother of Studies.
