Fall photos
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:37:02 AM »
As my trip to Ukraine is coming to an end I will be sending some photos over the next few weeks.  And if you are one of those who dislikes my photos, although you will be happy to hear I had a camera problem and lost a few days of photo shooting, you are really going to hate my video's. Yep, got a new Sony HD video camera with footage of lot's of beautiful women. But I think it will take me some time to figure out how to create something that I can put here or on You Tube.  Anyone with this type of experience a PM would be greatly appreciated.

Here are two photos I took during a Kiev storm.  First photo shows how dark Independence Square is during the middle of the night.  Second photo shows Independence Square during a lighting strike.  Quite a contrast.

Full moon
« Reply #1 on: September 25, 2010, 02:39:34 AM »
Here are some photos I found interesting. Kiev during a full moon.  I could not believe how bright the moon was during the day time as shown in the first photo.

The second photo I was taken by the beauty of the absolute blue sky.

Third photo the full moon seen thru a light cloud. And to the left, where the moon was at one time and could not be seen, a single bright star.

I was walking off the beaten path in Kiev when I came across this site.  I had never seen this before.

ECOCKS, kievstar, ManLooking, or anyone else familiar with Kiev, any guess's as to where this photo was taken?

I'm sure Jack wont mind me including some of my own photos in this thread.

This one from Dnepropetrovsk was interesting I thought. I wonder if anyone was taking my photo? ::)

Is there a prize?
  :P
Those buildings look waaaay too clean!
I was thinking movie set at first, but from closer examination it looks like a lego villiage or a model (miniature) world....

Is there a prize?  :o  Of course!!!   The first three rounds will be on me.  8)

I agree it looks like a Hollywood movie set, or like a villa in Italy. When I first saw this I was amazed.

The site, location, is very real and it's not in any isolated part of Kiev.  I'll wait a day, see if anyone guess's. If not I have another couple photos from a wider angle that I think will help some of the guys know where it is.

Vinvinney, very nice, unique photo.  You should take, show, more photos.

Oh, and by the way,...yes, someone was taking your photo.

Jack, you posted six photos and there's not a Ukrainian girl in a miniskirt in a single one of them.  That's a first for you.  I'm shocked, shocked!

Having just spent 2 weeks with Jack then it's the calm before the storm I suspect.  :-X

Behind St. Andrew's Church, left side?
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

You are correct Boethius, down the street from St. Andrews church.

Just for TwoBitBandit.

Girl number 2 was wearing trousers but for some reason I still felt compelled to snap away.

Jack, there are several nice restaurants and small hotels in there as well if it up the hill away from water from Podol area - I have no idea about the church Boethius mentioned so I maybe talking about a different area.

I recently toured this area in August. A friend told us it is all new upscale apartment bldgs being built. Many of these apts cost a million plus to purchase!

I think that is from a site on Adrievsky street looking down at Podil.

Oooooops,  I posted just as I read Jack's challenge.  Further down I  found that Boethius and KievStar had already given answer.

Hammer, some are listed at $1M but you can get similar ones for less than $200K or offer $200K and they will sell it.  Many people bought those units in advance but as we all know prices tumbled on average between 50 and 80%.  Still not a good investment as prices will go lower as some of the foreign buyers have those units with high credit at more than 10%.  The dangers of home flipping.  Only difference in Ukraine collection agencies want money or an arm and a leg.
