How did you meet?

For those of you who have run the gauntlet, one time or several, and have married a woman from the FSU, where and how did you meet her?

An agency, at the store, in a bar, at church, at a dating function...?

I posted this here because this forum gets more hits than the "Married" forum, but I will post it there as well.

It seems to me that most men here have met their lady after correspondence, meaning not many have "just run into" a lady and decided to begin communication.
So, let me kindly reword your question:

   "If you did not meet via the Internet, How did you meet?"

Perhaps some folks met this way and I would be interested.

I would suspect most met via Internet, however there are several men here and on other discussion sites who met women during business trips, vacation trips, etc.

Currently, I am 'involved' with three FSU women.

One I met through the Internet dating sites, one I met as the wife of a (now deceased) business associate, and one I was introduced to by another business associate.

If you want to know about the physical meeting after writing... here is my story.

I arrived in Moscow by plane, and as it was a working day could not be picked up by the future Mrs Shadow. However through a member of the forum living in Moscow I arranged a driver to pick me up. She even called me on the way to see if he arrived (yes it was a female member but not one for me ).
After logging in to the hotel, I called and we decided to meet at the Bolshoi Theater.
Having plenty of time and always being curious I decided to walk the two stops. And found that metro stations in Moscow are not close. Having arrived I stood near the entrance, looking for who might appear. But nobody approached me, though I did get some interested looks.
I decided to call her mobile, and found that MrsShadow was waiting inside the subway on the platform. By phone we connected to find the right exit, and when I saw someone talking in to a phone I told her she could hang up now.

It goes something like this. Wandered into Russia (DME Airport) as part of a 6 month trip with a few hours to kill before making for Irkutsk / Baikal. Noticed a hottie half my age working behind the Siberian Airlines desk and of course my ticket needed checking (several times, go figure). Long story short, had coffee with her and her sister about 3 hours later, swapped emails etc and never thought another thing about it. Was on an introduction site a couple of years later and received one of these "remember me" letters (from the sister).

We met at Free Personals.  She did not speak English.  We corresponded for a long time with brief, partly incoherent exchanges.  The few telephone calls were made via an interpreter.

Yet each week or so there would be something new that would intrigue me.   It could be a homemade photo or something about her history (e. g.,  genuine fashion model in Germany for years, two years in a circus as a gymnast on the high bar).  And almost always there was a catchy comment (e. g., I once sent her an email that I would be away for a few weeks; she replied with only four words "Do not forget me").

We met in Moscow.  She had to fly from her city near the Urals.  I hired an English speaking driver to help me meet her at Domodedovo.  I suppose the driver was trying to do me a favor because all the way to the airport he warned me about how most of the RW who meet AW are not classy RW.   He discussed the many scams.  His favorite was a woman who showed up at the airport with no coat and on the way to the hotel they stopped and bought her a coat!  The partings are usually not so good.  He asked sarcastically how do you men find these women. 

As he directed me to her arrival gate at the airport, his face expressed little hope for me.

I looked over the people coming out of the gate, focusing on tall women.  There are always the questions of "Will I recognize her?  Will she recognize me?  Will she even show?"  Now I had the driver's warnings in my head.

I recognized her immediately as she did me.  We gave each other a smile and a polite hug. 

I walked her to the driver.  His eyes were big.  He spoke to her briefly and turned to me, "She is a real Russian flower."  His praises rained throughout our ride to our flat. 

The four days together were delightful even though we struggled over every spoken word.  The driver took us to the airport when she departed.  Our parting was sweet and full of hope for the future.  On the way back the driver never stopped making compliments about her.

I was traveling to my wife's city and while killing time before my train was scheduled to leave, I surfed the mamba network (http://www.singles.ru). She caught my eye, we chatted for a few minutes and then she gave me her ICQ number. We chatted for a few more minutes and she gave me her cell number. Got on the train and over two days chatted via SMS whenever I had phone service. Met her the night that I arrived in her city (after a shower and a clean change of clothes of course). That was almost 4-and-a-half years ago.
