Jack would have won! jb would have lost
« on: December 15, 2010, 06:46:05 AM »
I have been waiting patiently for the past few months to post the quotes that follow.  A few months ago, being a little bored I was surfing through some old posts and came across some comments in a rather tumultuous thread and thought I would post this today since it is the appropriate day.  I have edited these to leave only the pertinent parts but here it is.

Quote from: jb
Sooner or later vwrw will come to understand this, and she will leave him, no doubt for a younger and better man.  I do wonder if it will last the required 3 years.

Quote from: Jack
I have said it once and I will say it again, Turbo is not a newby to this pursuit, Turbo has been around the block a few times, Turbo KNOWS what he is getting into and is willing to take the risk.  Turbo knows this woman better than any of us.   You want to wonder if this marriage will last the required three years?  I'm willing to bet you $1000 and I'll give you two to one odds the marriage lasts more than three years.  Now if your so sure of what your ranting you want to make this little side bet?  And anyone else out there who does not think this marriage will last three years, I'll take your $1000 at two to one odds as well.

Quote from: Gator
Jack offerred,
I will hold the money.  Please wire it to me for safekeeping in my new Nigerian bank account.
Seriously, I will not and can not  bet on the "three years" because I do not know VWRW or T/G.
Finally, I agree with Ken's "If they are happy then I am happy for them. If they succeed then I will congratulate them on overcoming a $hitload of odds. If they fail then I will feel bad for their loss."

Today is our third wedding anniversary so had jb taken Jack up on his bet he would have lost and would be sending Jack a check.

Anyway, it has been a wonderful 3 years and I am the luckiest man on the planet to have found such a wonderful woman.  I am not sure why jb felt that 3 years was the "required" point to determine success or failure.  To me there is no one point that marks that accomplishment.  For what it is worth we get along wonderfully and I fully expect many, many more wonderful years together.   Every day together is a new adventure and every day together is amazing and wonderful and I do really believe that she is as happy as I am.

For those newer members who missed out on jb's posts, he had more wisdom than most anyone on RWD and I miss that part of him.  He wasn't exactly the most tactful member here but he could cut through the BS and really get to the heart of a situation.  I had the opportunity to share a dinner with him last Spring and one of the early questions he asked was how things were going with VWRW and I.  He seemed a little surprised when I said wonderful.  I can understand that since this is sometimes not an easy prospect and I am sure some who didn't really know us would have considered us to be a long shot.  I think the secret is to not fall for the first pretty face that pays attention to you but to take the time to find someone who really is compatible with you in all ways.

Anyway I would like to thank my wonderful wife for these fantastic years.  I would also like to thank Dan and RWD.  I doubt that it would have all been possible without RWD.   I have posted the story in the past but RWD played a sizable part in our courtship and just maybe we would not be together without it.

Congratulations, Turbo and vrvw.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

It ain't about whether Jack or jb 'won' or not. It is about whether you think YOU have won and how long that feeling lasts.

The longer you feel happy with what you have the better for you and, hopefully, for the young woman who shares your life.

Today is our third wedding anniversary

Congratulations!!!  :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

I see that you also quoted me.  I do not know the two of you personally, yet I heard good comments from those who have met you, e. g. VWRW has done remarkably well in her academic pursuits.
Because I did not know you, my assessment of " a $hitload of odds" was based strictly on two facts:  1) the age disparity and 2) your life in a "hamlet."   ;D  [Probably larger than the Tennessee hamlet where I was born.]

Marriage involves a ton of compatibility parameters  other than appropriate ages, and you and VWRW have made the necessary interrelationship connections and accommodations.

JB has superb quantitative analytical skills, and his use of three years seems reasonable as most misfit marriages fall apart by that time.    Three years is a very long time to live with the wrong woman (or man).

Strong statement.  I know that VWRW read you thousands of past posts to enhance her understanding of your character.  What else helped?

Congrats to both of you! Turbo, yours is a story that many a new (and experienced) guy can learn from. In the end, it appears you found the one who is right for you. I agree, you are a very lucky man.

Thanks everyone.  Yes, I agree with you Andrew and I definitely feel like I have won and I am sure VWRW feels the same.  I think what we have is one of those Win-Win situations as the say.

Gator, thanks for the nice remarks and like jb you have shown yourself to be very wise and insightful.  Unlike jb you are always very tactful in expresssing your ideas.  As far as what else helped, I think learning from the mistakes and successes of others probably more than anything.  That doesn't mean the you can't have different ideas but most everyone gambles a little in deciding who is the right woman and the more you are aware of the risks and problems you may face the more chance you have to overcome them.

Yes, the villiage part can be a problem for many RW.  There are pluses.  One is driving and learning to drive is easier.  I do think before long we are going to move closer to the big city.  (If you call Pittsburgh a big city)

I love that western Penn area around Pittsburgh. The rolling hills, etc etc.   8)

Congratulations to both of you.  I'm glad everything is going so well.  I guess all that waiting time you had while sorting out the application/visa issues are somewhat of a faded memory now, eh?  ;D

Happy 3-year anniversary TG & VWRW! Get out and celebrate!

As for jb...I don't share the same sentment. He gave me the very best advice/opinion ever laid out to me during my journey. It was raw and straight forward. Many will easily tag it as 'negative' but strange as it may sound, the longer I enjoy my marriage with my wife, the more that advice is noted with wisdom.

I think every area has it good and bad points but I agree with you that the rolling hills around here make for an attractive landscape.  Yes, for a while I thought we were never getting our visa but that long wait we had seems much shorter looking back on it.  When you are in A/R and talk to people who spent 8 years in it then it does get worrysome.

I do think jb's advice was usually excellent.  He had a knack of cutting through the BS to get to the heart of the issue.  I don't think the blunt approach is right for everyone but for some it is what they need.  I liked jb and wish he were still participating.

Pittsburg is a big city IMO, and  a delightful community based on my couple a visits.  And the universities there are excellent, something VWRW would appreciate.

I infer a future major change in your life, not just in the move from Groundhog Falls.  Could this signal a future transition in the management/operation of your company?  If so, that is a huge passage in life, especially for a man who worked all his life and owns his company.  Good luck with your deliberations.

Thank you for congratulations!  :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

It has been extremely pleasant three years! We enjoy each other company a lot. Probably, 330 evenings of 365, we spend together. All my friends here know that it is impossible to lure me out of my husband’s company by any offer. We do not quarrel at all and are very accommodative of each other. I still meet my husband at the door with kisses and hugs each time he comes home for lunch and after work, and I feel happiness especially strongly at those moments. Knowing everything I know now, I would marry my husband again.

First off, thanks again for all the nice comments and a special thanks to my wife for her nice comments.   If anyone did not watch the video that Dan posted please watch it.  It is well beyond interesting.  Fascinating is a better word.

Pittsburgh is a big city IMO, and  a delightful community based on my couple a visits.

Pittsburgh is big enough for me to call it a big city and I think as far as big cities go it is a good city and yes, there are quite a few good schools and VWRW has a few years before she will finish up.  No, I don't think a transition in the business is in the short term plans.  I will just have a longer drive to work.  Our target area is called Moon Township which is near the Pittsburgh airport.  We just put one house up for sale two weeks ago and when it sells we will start house hunting seriously and then put the one we are living in up for sale.  I have the impression that when you worked it was work for you but I have always enjoyed working in my business and some of the things I do there isn't really anyone else at the minute that can do those things.  Most of the day to day stuff is already turned over to the others so my work day is mostly playing around on RWD and working on new products and handling the advertising.  The advertsing could be turned over to an agency but I seem to have a bit of a knack on the new products that does help us.  When it reaches the point that I don't enjoy it or can't do it then I will stop but right now my targeted retirement age is 80  :D

Interesting vid there for sure. I like one of the opening statements.. we can paraphrase it for our purposes here..

3 years already Turbo, how time does fly when you're having a good time.  Congrats to you and your charming bride.  Keep up the good work for sure.  Yes, many did predict you to crash and burn but--here you are.  You've been doing something right.

Movin' to Pittsburgh?  I think thats a big city, might even have a football team too.

Thanks again to everyone.  I think what I did right was to find a really wonderful woman.

Pittsburgh is a football town and VWRW has turned into a pretty big fan and seems to enjoy the games almost as much as I do.

congratulations turboguy and rwvw . Happy 3rd!  We had our 3rd in September.  We are also very happy . We have 19 + years difference but we get along very well and I never knew someone could be as loving as Marina. We just wish we could have met each other years ago .  I look forward to coming home to see her every day after work still.   I also inherited a lovely step daughter who is now finished with school and out on her own.   May you have many years more together!

Thanks Phil, I appreciate it.
