Thanks for the good wishes but it is not Vera.  I have never even known a Vera.  Iren or Ira or even Irina will all keep me out of trouble.

I recall the original thread, among others.  :D

Never did it cross my mind to place a bet either way.

But Turbo's and vwrw's is a warm and heartfelt story -
and I am very happy for them.

Congratulations to both of you.

Ray:

Firstly and most importantly, well done both of you. 3 years (been there, done that) isn't simple, although it can be a lot of fun. Currently we're holidaying on Australias Gold Coast for about 3 weeks, expecting another child within 6 weeks and basically enjoying life together so "it" can be done as it were, even, dare I say it, in an age gap relationship but...........

And here's the kicker..........

As with most people here, you have completely missed jb's original point/s I saw him so often make to you. The "3" years (quote, unquote) wasn't and isn't the point. To compare Jack's and jb's comments or to try to draw any conclusions because of their differing views on most any part of this general subject (international relationships) is, IMO, plain silly as they both come to and at it from vastly different angles.

Frankly, wonderful achievement though it is and I wish you many more years together, IMO 3 years is a little early in any marriage cycle to be issuing the third finger salute.

First off, thanks again to everyone for the nice comments.   Second off, I did survive the "Vera" thing other than a couple of black eyes and a sore butt.

I/O.  I am glad to hear you are enjoying a vacation on the Gold Coast.  Sounds great.  We usually have vacationed someplace warm about this time of the year and originally planned on Mexico but changed our minds and are happily staying home and freezing.  Congratulations as well on expecting another child.  That is great and I am sure will bring even more happiness.  VWRW is still content with the one big baby she has, me.

Personally I agree with you that there isn't that much all that special about making three years.  I do think that a lot of international marriages that fail do so very quickly so perhaps from that standpoint it is.  I probably would not have even mentioned it on the forum if I had not tripped over Jack and jb's posts a few months ago but it did strike me as funny.    I think in reality the only mark of success is when after a few decades or more of marriage one of the two dies of old age.   Even in a case like that back when I was a kid I saw a lot of people stay a lifetime in a marriage in which they were miserable just because people were more dependent and tended to rarely get divorced.  I am sure some could look at KenC and say his marriage failed which it did but still they both had a lot of happy years which might be a case for it being a success.  Defining success and failure in a marriage is not an easy thing or an exact science.  I am not even sure it serves a purpose to try to call a marriage a success or a failure.   The only thing I really care about is that she is happy and I am happy and that is all that is important to me.

Defining success and failure in a marriage is not an easy thing or an exact science.  I am not even sure it serves a purpose to try to call a marriage a success or a failure.   The only thing I really care about is that she is happy and I am happy and that is all that is important to me.

For me it is and I am a bit surprise everytime people define the silly word 'success' to something linear. Number of days, months, years, lifetime. It also seem to matter to many if 2 people are still shacked up in the same roof or worlds apart as well.

'Success' for me is when two people spent and devoted an amount of their living days dedicated to a specific person and realize that person not only made a positive impact in the other person's being, but continue to do so whether or not the two are still together or apart. Think of all the peoples and the relationships you all had in the past. Are there people/s in your respective lives you can be confident and honestly say thoughts of one another will always bring warmth and appreciation to both of you? Have someone helped to shape you in positive degrees to what you had become as a person today?

I've decided in my life to marry the woman I am with now and make sure I do eveything in my being to be a positive influence and her continuing source of inspiration for her since the day we mutually agreed to share the same last name. What has always defined success/failure for me is what I had become to the other person's life and being.

Mutually cherished forever, then I succeeded. Scorned for life, then I failed. Whether we're still together or apart. How many times have you failed / succeeded in your lives based on this?

Don't let trivialities and superficialities drive your inspiration. That's food for the insecure...

Turboguy,

Let me begin by saying Congratulations!!!

Your post is so funny and so relative to me. Hey, I'm the OneWeekWonder and I had these nut cases, (jb and Kenc) coming after me
7 years ago. We have been married over 6 years now. These guys gave their best to rattle my cage way back then but remain in
silence today with respect to their historical comments. Niether one has said, oh, you were right and I was wrong, which time has
proved I was correct. Now, if I could just get these inexperienced moderators off my butt, then they would fall into the jb and Kenc
range.

Thanks for proving the experts wrong.

Who's the AndrewFi guy? I thought he quit several years ago?

I FORGOT WE WERE LOGGED IN HERE WITH MY WIFES ACCOUNT.  THIS IS TURBOGUY POSTING

Nice story Markus.  It sounds like you made a great case of proving you were right and they were wrong.  I am sure there were some cases where they were right but I guess no one is right all the time.  Of course there are some people who are rarely right and some who are rarely wrong and some who are wrong a lot but think they are always right and probably any other combination you can think of.

You have done great.

I wouldn't call either jb or Ken nutcases.   I also think Turbo's post was a little tongue in cheek.

I knew the first day we met that I would marry my husband.  He proposed after about 10 days.  But, as much as I am happy for your success, Markus, if one of your children came to you and said they were marrying after a week, would you be thrilled with that decision?

Why?  Scorn is an emotion.  An emotion, whether positive or negative, is evidence of attachment.  I think indifference would be a better indicator of failure.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

I recall that KenC congratulated you a few years ago for going against the odds and finding happiness (with the caveat that he still would strongly recommend NOT doing what you did).

Hi Ray and Ira.

Since I have met both of you on more than one occasion, I am betting that you are just in the primary stages of a long and beautiful marriage.

Maybe in 15 years you can make another post for those doubters out there.

Congratulations.

Thanks again for the nice comments and congratulations everyone.  Groov, I don't get to NYC often but if I do get up that way I would love to take you up on that.

SOC, it hardly seems like 3 years ago.  I did not mention in my first post that we did have a couple of RWD people at the wedding which were SOC and Viking.   I really appreciated them battling the winter weather to make it out here and there was a very nasty storm that day.  Time does fly.

Gosh, I am not sure I want to think about 15 years from now SOC but I do know that I married a really amazing and wonderful woman and so far things could not be better and I see no reason that should change.

I cannot believe it has been 3 years. I still have your wedding photos someplace. But I bet neither of you has changed much. I remember all the posts. The tits-for-tats that went on. Oi..as my wife would say.But many of us never doubted you.

Congrats to both of you. May I survive the first 3 as easily and as happily as you. And FYI, even if that storm was worse, I would have stilled showed up. So it was an 8 hour drive. Well worth every minute. Hey, I even got to see all the beavers and all the falls !!!
