decisions decisions
« on: February 20, 2011, 12:41:00 PM »
Well 2011 is starting out very well indeed  :D

The most amazing lady I have ever met agreed to marry me (and she was completely sober  :o )
I was waiting for word on a particular investigator position for a certain alphabet agency (which I really wanted) and also applied for a promotion for a job in Germany.
Well after all was said and done the list was narrowed down to 200 finalists and I recieved word the other day- Auf Wiedersehen!!!

Now I have to start packing, get the orders cut, get the government passport and a million other things.  I really don't think the government has a clue as to what it's done; It's giving me a firearm, putting me in charge of of folks carrying guns and placing me in a friendly foreign country!!!  Look for me on CNN  ;D

So I'll get to live in Germany for 5 years at government expense, I can be with Sofia, we can do a DCF and she can get her green card in 3 months versus a year.

All in all not bad for a high school drop out.  :P

Congratulations Bear!!!  This in indeed good news.

You have been rather silent on the subject of romance, as in "not a word."  I am sure Sofia is a delightful person.

Please tell us a little more.

I feel safe knowing that you are now protecting our interests at a higher level.

Bear, very good news indeed.

As you probably already know but for those who may not--not only can you do a DCF, but if you are married for more than  two years before you apply then she'll go straight to the 10-year green card and not have the "conditional" type that must be renewed in two years.

I hope you'll have a cost of living adjustment as part of the gig, though, as it can be pretty expensive living in Germany compared to most places in the States.

I wish you all the best both with your new assignment and with the marriage. You have much to look forward to!

Awesome. This is great news. I am happy that you will be with a wonderful woman and working at a job you really want. what more can you ask for? ( dont try to answer that question!). what city will you be living in? Can you tell us what capacity in  you will be working or is it a secret government thing?

Congrats Bear, my family and I spent a year living in Frankfurt and loved it.  Germany is a great country for American expats, lots of American military personnel stationed all over the country and many American businesses in the country, so German businesses are use to catering to American tastes, needs and culture. Most younger Germans speak some English which makes shopping and tourism easy.

Your soon to be wife will find it quick, easy and reasonably cheap to travel back home.  After the break up of the USSR, Germany was a top destination for many FSU citizens so there are literally millions of native Russian speakers in Germany.

More like protecting the interests at a lower level (always good to have friends in low places-lol)

Is the Evil Empire resurrecting from its ashes :o? Please don't start WWIII in Central Europe, we're having problems enough now in the southern Mediterranean basin.

Maybe Sophia (Σοφíα, Greek for "wisdom") will exercise a positive restraining influence ::). All the best :D.

No worries Sandro, I plan on doing my job and lying low.  I enjoy history too much to go starting unneeded trouble and you are correct in that Sophia is a positive influence.

I hope you'll have a cost of living adjustment as part of the gig, though, as it can be pretty expensive living in Germany compared to most places in the States.
David

David- no worries-not only is it a promotion but I will be getting LQA (Living quarters allowance) and other benefits, so the government will be paying for living expenses (which will increase after marriage)

Wow, congratulations on the awesome and exciting changes in your life, Bear!  Best of luck conquering Germany and the USCIS! :)  Please tell us more about your beautiful lady.

Blues-Thank you for your kind words.  I can honestly say Sophia is the best thing to happen to me.  Not only is she beautiful but she is a highly educated University professor, speaks 3 languages and is down to earth.  I consider myself very lucky.

What city will you be living in? Can you tell us what capacity in  you will be working or is it a secret government thing?
I will be in the Bavaria region, as to my position-it is law enforcement but I will mainly be pushing papers and Supervising others.  My firearm will be more of a paperweight then anything.  But it is a great opportunity none the less.

I will be able to get on my motorcycle (or car) and go instead of flying across the ocean when I want to go to historical place in Europe.

Bear congratulations, great to hear that after all struggles things are coming your way.
Bavaria is pretty close to Russian culture, so I am pretty sure you will like it there.

If we manage to get to that area or you are ready to invade Belgium let us know.

Bear,

I spent some time in Freiburg, and we would frequently venture into the countryside.  Delightful place, delightful people.  You will enjoy it.

Congrats, Bear!  This is wonderful news--in duplicate--new job, great new woman :-)

I have spent a lot of time in Bavaria--it's one of my favorite places in the world.

Enjoy, and once again, Congrats!

I just thought I would stop in and update the RWD misfits  ;D

I fly out of Dallas to Frankfurt on Saturday and report in on Monday the 25th, then a month later I'll fly to Seoul and marry Sophia on June 16th and then have the reception on June 19th.  Her mother will fly in from Хабаровск and her sister and niece will be in attendance as well.  Nothing like moving to one country and planning a wedding in a third country to make life interesting ;D  I have found myself automatically thinking in 4 different time zones  :o (Texas, Seoul, Хабаровск, Germany)

I have gotten rid of 95% of my stuff and it was refreshing, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter fresh without any baggage.  Life does not get any better, a new job to challenge me, a beautiful intelligent woman and living in a new exciting country.  If I'm dreaming, don't wake me up!!

Well one more day in the U.S then Saturday morning I'm feet wet to Germany!!

No fair! When you update the normal people, I'll be back to read.

Bear, I just check my mail and haven't got my invitation yet. When did you send them out? Good luck on finding happy people in Korea. If you thought Russians smiled the least, you haven't been to Korea.

Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.
