I watch my 19" tv mainly for movies from digital cable which has tons of free ones.

I watch my dvd's on my 19" tv.

I rarely watch commercial television at all.

HD television would be great for watching movies so I am with BillyB and will wait a year or two when the prices come down even more. The cheapest hd television I have seen was still about $900.00 for a 34" screen. And this was at "Best Buy."

If you are looking for quality electronics at bargain basement prices, I would suggest my favorite store in the whole world: Costco. It's way better than Sam's Club.

Best Buy is selling 30" HDTVs for $499 not $900.

HDTV is going to be the only over air standard as of 2009, what makes this dealine different is that the FCC has is looking to sell the old analog spectrum to wireless companies for big bucks so with everyone knowing about money being a motivated, this time the change will happen.

There will be convertor boxes for older TVs, but being active electronic devices expect to pay around $100 for them at least for a while.

What is being missed here I think is that in addition to HDTV there have been numerous advances in LCD and Plasma technology that allow for higher quality and "thinner/lighter" TVs to come out.  For example my 56" LCD projector TV (that has a greater than 45 degree viewing angle) weighs less than my 32" tube TV.

The LCD/Plasma screens also typically give a better picture for good old analog signals.

Chances are if you are still watching on a 19" screen than viewing movies/TV isn't important to you and you're better off waiting a while for prices to come down.  For the rest of us the extra money is well worth it.

Every person I visit these days has a high resolution television but are they really necessary?

Forget the almost ancient HDTV technology, the real interesting step is true 3D stereoscopic television.

True 3D Stereoscopic technology without using any glasses were developed first by "Opticality" back in 2000

Another producer of 3D monitors are StereoGraphics (now RealD) with their StereoGraphics SynthaGram series which existed since 2004 is this 40" version:

Philips by the way also had that since 2004

When you see one of these you are about to throw out your HDTV :-)

regards Lars
