Finding job in America?
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:23:27 PM »
Hello, my Russian girlfriend is thinking about finding a job here, so she can move here. She has a degree in hotel management and minimal work experience. How can she go about getting a job? Can anyone provide any information at all?

The first thing to do is get her English up to snuff. The quality of any job she will get is directly proportional to the quality of her English.

Her English is quite good. She currently works in a hotel in Russia where everyone is required to speak English only unless someone speaks Russian to them. Any other information?

There is the obvious first step of geting a Green Card?  Green Card lottery or else you're marrying her as I'm not sure there are too many companies importing foreign talent for hotel managment unless they have a LOT of expeirence.

OK, there are probably plenty of jobs for a new immigrant without proper papers, but I'm guessing she aspires to more than cleaning a toilet.

Even with a Green Card, she'll probably find it a little hard going at first, but persistence wins many battles.

Hey Taco.
I live in Miami.
If I may suggest, tell her to check with the cruise lines (Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Carribean, etc.).
My wife and I have been on several different cruise lines and there are a lot of FSU ladies working on these ships.
Good Luck!

Taco-

Unfortunately you (she) have two strong points going against you. Her profession falls off on specialty occupations normally listed under H1 visa job list, and because of our current economic state and unemployment situations, it will be tough to find a prospective employer willing to hire a foreigner over local applicants at this time....

Best maybe to look into what GOB suggested.

Read up on this to help give you additional information.

Good luck.

It makes me sad to see how the job situation is like in the good ole US of A. The real unemplyment rate, as opposed to Government statistics, is more like 20% or so Shadow stats say, so if your girl do find a job she better hold on tight to it. Anyways, good luck.

Yup, me, too! sadden that is....

If there're still folks out there wondering if this latest administration's intent is to centrally-control this country's fate, then wonder no more and simply look at the latest emplyment structure between public vs private employment. Especially in the manufacturing sector.

And that is the latest administration's fault how?
