2 Years Today
« on: June 30, 2011, 06:03:03 PM »
2 years today !   And we couldn't be happier. Her English certainly needed help but it never slowed us down.
Her 27 year old daughter left here yesterday after her first ever visit to the U.S.

Congratulations.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Congratulations  Chicagoguy and Chicagogal.   :clapping:  Yes, the language factor.  It requires much patience (plus a presumption of innocence when misunderstandings inevitably occur).

Out of Curiosity, How did you get a tourist visa? We tried to get one for my wife's mother to be here when the baby was born, but they denied us.

The Visa
I still don't understand why she got a visa. She asked for 30 days and got two years.
No big job or car or condo or dacha. No husband or children. Maybe Schengen Visa with trips to Slovenia, Greece,Paris and Egypt helped. Maybe because her mother was here and has Green Card. And maybe it was just the luck of the draw on her interviewer. I have heard that there are no exact standards that they follow.

A good guess is her travel history with the Schengen. The standards vary with the interviewer but they all generally do follow the protocol. The protocol is finding reasons to deny the visa as opposed to finding reason to grant one. Does that shine the light a little?

Congrats Chicagoguy

They must be handing out the tourist visas like candy. My wife's 20 year old daughter decided to stay in Russia and not follow her mom here. She wanted to finish her education and look at coming later in life.

Anyways, she applied for a visa to visit. I had my doubts but told her to apply and see what happens. To my surprise she was issued a visa for later this summer. She had to first obtain an international passport since she has never traveled outside of Russia.

Not sure if the visa's are easier to get from Russia. We tried to get a visa for my wife's mother and sister to come and they were denied. The embassy did not even look at the packet of information she brought to the interview.
I'm glad to see some people get approved. Now I have to wait until next year to fly over there with my wife so she can see her grandson.
