Ukrainian Birth Incentives
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:48:51 AM »
Saw this on another forum:

"She's stunned that her employer will only give her a few weeks off for maternity leave. She says in Ukraine the mother gets $1000 just for having the baby, 3 years paid leave, and up to 3 more years unpaid leave. "

So, are there women in Ukraine who have babies just for financial reasons?  I am chatting with a woman on maternity leave with a two year old.  It did not occur to me that this might be something I need to watch out for.

Thanks,
Brian

As far as I can tell, in Ukraine paid maternity leave is limited to 126 days.. It's possible to get a 3-year extension which will be paid by the government, as opposed to by the employer. The amount of maternity allowance is around 800 hr (~$100) per child a month. Not sure whether that's including child rearing benefits or not..
Why get a ball and chain when you can get the milk for free?
