Since we are wrestling with Freshman Economics 101 and not getting to Sophomore, let alone graduate studies.

Here is a basic Econ 101 concept that is relevant to FSU dating.  What does cost of housing indicate about quality of life in a state?

Texas and Missouri are below 30 out of 50.  What does that mean 101?

http://www.statemaster.com/graph/hou_med_hou_val_of_own_hou_uni-median-value-owner-occupied-units

Here is a better example by state of those who are best at graft--taking more than they produce.  Does the WM live in a state that takes more than it gives from the Federal government.  Parasite state?  What will the neighbors be like. Debt burden issues at all?

Low corporate tax rates do spur investment.
Certainly and those in the investor class "have" money to invest and use government bought influence to spur their agenda.  If they can exploit the US market using Chinese crap products and labor to create better growth in equity and margins--why not?  A good example is Mattel toys exporting their quality brand to China to bring back children's toys laced in lead.  People thought they were buying Mattel and instead were buying 翻訳できません。slave labor, toxic products, and environmental rape.  Very profitable concepts all of them.  Let's celebrate with champagne.

Lower corporate tax rates don't create jobs.  They also don't lead to increased wages, at least, not for the middle class.

Absolutely!!!!!!,  Well, Probably!!!!,  Ok, maybe!!!!!!  Ahh, Perhaps!!!!!

If Economics was an exact science, and the theories were all proven and repeatable, why are we having this recession?????

So FS, enlighten us.  What does the cost of housing indicate about the quality of life in a state?   What is quality of life for that matter and is it the same for you as it is for me?  I see the annual most livable cities being selected that are places you could not pay me to live in.

Corporate tax rates were higher in the past, and as they dropped, the "savings" were not passed on to employees, either in small companies or in public companies.   The OECD has also studied this, and came to the same conclusion.  But, corporations do tend to use that cash for investment, more so now, with technology changing so rapidly.  That does have an effect on the economy.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

We need tariffs, reinstate the Glass Stegal Act, close down a bunch of government Departments, restructure the tax system, default on the National debt and bring home our troops. Let the resulting depression work itself out over a few or several years and get a production rather than a consumption economy going. There will be no escaping a depression either way. Americans can either have a future to look forward to or one where we have our hands around each others throats dragging ourselves into a third world nation.

Drunken Ben Bernanke Tells Everyone At Neighborhood Bar How Screwed U.S. Economy Really Is

SEWARD, NE—Claiming he wasn't afraid to let everyone in attendance know about "the real mess we're in," Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke reportedly got drunk Tuesday and told everyone at Elwood's Corner Tavern about how absolutely fucked the U.S. economy actually is.

Bernanke, who sources confirmed was "totally sloshed," arrived at the drinking establishment at approximately 5:30 p.m., ensconced himself upon a bar stool, and consumed several bottles of Miller High Life and a half-dozen shots of whiskey while loudly proclaiming to any patron who would listen that the economic outlook was "pretty goddamned awful if you want the God's honest truth."

"Look, they don't want anyone except for the Washington, D.C. bigwigs to know how bad shit really is," said Bernanke, slurring his words as he spoke. "Mounting debt exacerbated—and not relieved—by unchecked consumption, spiraling interest rates, and the grim realities of an inevitable worldwide energy crisis are projected to leave our entire economy in the shitter for, like, a generation, man, I'm telling you."

"And hell, as long as we're being honest, I might as well tell you that a truer estimate of the U.S. unemployment rate is actually up around 16 percent, with a 0.7 percent annual rate of economic growth if we're lucky—if we're lucky," continued Bernanke, nearly knocking a full beer over while gesturing with his hands. "Of course, if everybody knew that, it would likely cripple financial markets across the entire fucking globe, even in various emerging economies with self- sustaining growth."

After launching into an extended 45-minute diatribe about shortsighted moves by "those bastards in Congress" that could potentially exacerbate the nation's already deeply troublesome budget imbalance, the Federal Reserve chairman reportedly bought a round of tequila shots for two customers he had just met who were seated on either side of him, announcing, "I love these guys."

Numerous bar patrons slowly nodded in agreement as Bernanke went on to suggest the United States could pass three or four more stimulus packages and "it wouldn't even matter."

"You think that's going to create long-term economic growth, let alone promote job creation?" Bernanke said. "We're way beyond that, my friend. There are no jobs, okay? There's nothing. I think that calls for another drink, don't you?"

While using beer bottles and pretzel sticks in an attempt to explain to the bartender the importance of infusing $650 billion into the bond market, the inebriated Fed chairman nearly fell off his stool and had to be held up by the patron sitting next to him.

Another bargoer confirmed Bernanke stood about 2 inches from her face and sprayed her with saliva, claiming inflation was going to "totally screw" consumer confidence and then asking if he could bum a smoke.

"Sure, we could hold down long-term interest rates and pursue a program of quantitative easing, but c'mon, we all know that's not going to make the slightest bit of difference when it comes to output, demand, or employment," Bernanke said before being told to "try to keep [his] voice down" by the bartender. "And trust me, with the value of the U.S. dollar in the toilet, import costs going through the roof, and numerous world governments unprepared for their own substantial debt burdens, shit's not looking too good for us abroad, either."

"God, I'm so wasted," added Bernanke, resting his head on the bar.

Later in the evening, Richard Kampman, a truck driver who was laid off in 2010, said Bernanke approached him in the men's restroom and attempted to strike up a conversation about various factors contributing to the current financial crisis.

"He stumbled up to the urinal and started mumbling on about the depressed housing sector or something," said Kampman, who claimed Bernanke had to use both hands on the wall to steady himself. "Then after a while he just sort of stopped and I couldn't tell if he was laughing or crying."

"Then he puked all over the sink and the mirror," Kampman added.

Customers at the bar told reporters the "shitfaced" and disruptive Bernanke refused to pay for his drinks with U.S. currency, claiming it was "worthless." Witnesses also confirmed that near the end of the evening, Bernanke put money into the jukebox and selected Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" to play five times in a row.

"This is what it's all about," said Bernanke, who reportedly danced alone in the middle of the dark tavern. "Fucking love this song.

A friend sent this to me. I remember it from back in the mid nineties when "Bankruptcy 1995, then 98" came out. Things haven't gotten any better...not looking forward to when the dollar goes the way of the ruble.
In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinborough, had this
to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they

can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. >From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always
followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been

about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

The Obituary follows:

Born 1776, Died 2012
It doesn't hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in  St. Paul , Minnesota ,

points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by:          Obama: 19          McCain: 29
Square miles of land won by:      Obama: 580,000    McCain: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by:    Obama: 127 million  McCain: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:  Obama: 13.2
McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was
mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income
tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the  United States  is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy,
with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached
the "governmental dependency" phase.
Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else :)

According to Wikipedia, Obama carried 28 states to 22 for McCain, also Obama received about 10,000,000 more of the popular vote.

Such people amaze me, and some continue to push such false theories.  Americans in general believe a person should be judged based on his merits and not where he was born.   Many admire that a man born in a hut in Africa has climbed so far in life.  What concerns them, however, is that he never had a real job, and it shows. :(

WTF!  You are from Ukraine and you support Russian policy?  Putin does have a point about living within one's means and not financing debt by borrowing from other nations.  However, he failed to mention that Europe is in the same boat.  And was not the situation reversed under Yeltsin?   This is an expected part of a global economy, and market principles should work to correct problems, eventually.

But, corporations do tend to use that cash for investment, more so now, with technology changing so rapidly.  That does have an effect on the economy.

Yes, investment usually involves producing a new product or expanding the production of an existing one to supply demand.  Both would create new jobs.  Do not forget the companies that supply raw goods to the investing company.  Thus, jobs are created and others maintained.  However, during a recession investment activity declines, especially if companies can not determine which way the wind is blowing.

Yes, some people will believe anything:

Maybe it would have helped the Europeans  if Maxx had quoted his source, The Onion.  Here's another Onion story  "World's Power Brokers Hold Annual Summit Where They Show Each Other Their Penises" including a photo to support the sttory:   http://www.theonion.com/articles/worlds-power-brokers-hold-annual-summit-where-they,18474/     :) [/font]

-  Like someone who believes the President of the world's largest economy just needs some more OJT.  (e. g., “The first term of most Presidents seems a bit tame as they do look forward to a second term where they can 'go for it' ”).

Gator,

You are a smart man with real experience.  I admire that and from what I have read would vote for you.

After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, Bush worked in oil businesses. He married Laura Welch in 1977 and ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives shortly thereafter. He later co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team before defeating Ann Richards in the 1994 Texas gubernatorial election. In a close and controversial election, Bush was elected President in 2000 as the Republican candidate, defeating Vice President Al Gore in the Electoral College.[5] He was named Time Person of the Year 2000 and 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. He served three terms representing the 13th District in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

Both from obviously prosperous families with great educational opportunity, later both well indoctrinated into the electoral processes.

Is it that one is simply 'born into' or coddled politics?

I don't see any 'grass roots' with either and would respect anyone with serious intentions on a soapbox with megaphone more.

Is becoming President no longer within the means of the common man?

What about 'Gator for 2012!!'?

USA indeed parasitizes on the world economy, and this is not a secret! Open a geography textbook and you will see there that countries are divided into two groups “core” countries and “peripheral “ countries with  the  firsts exploiting or parasitizing on the seconds.  Among others…USA, Canada, Europe, Australia are all parasites and are doing all in their power to sustain this state of affairs because they understand that parasite-less economy is a concept of  utopia which cannot  be achieved .  If they abandon their position,  other countries will take it.

Generally, “parasites - the exploited  relationship” is a norm on all levels, not only on the global level.  For example, on a State level, the capital region is parasitizing on the peripheral regions of the State. Moscow exploits the rest of Russia and thus is a parasite too, simply it is a parasite  of a smaller size than USA, and I have no doubt if Russia  had the chance to take the place of  USA in exploiting others, it would be happy to do that, and Russia might be much harsher in doing that because Russians are less disposed to sharing their gains. USA is a generous parasite.
