Yes, the 15 titular languages, however, in the Russian Republic of the Soviet Union there were autonomous republics, okrugs, etc... where a variety of language rights had been bestowed upon the indigenous inhabitants in their territories. These language rights were eroded and progressively taken away  :rolleyes2:

Misha are you for real? How many languages of the indigenous inhabitants in their territories are lost all over the world? and why?

Misha, sorry if my post on your insufficient knowledge on the subject insulted you. It was not my intention at all. Please accept my apology.

So possum, what are your thoughts on the most recent instalment?

Have you regained any respect for Eddie?

Oh my, while I was asleep you people managed to write 4 PAGES!!!!  >:( :D That's cruel - I have to work and all I'm doing now is reading reading reading  :D
Anyway I think we desperately need a new episode of RD because the discussion has gone absolutely offtopic and I guess if Misha hasn't understood the point in 4 pages, he won't ever ;)
Misha! In our society you can be not just Russian, or American, or Jew (by nationality), you can also be halves and quarters, you know. And based on these halves and quarters in most cases your behavior will have some distinctive features of these bloods mixed in you. Like for example a necessity for your child to marry a "Russian" guy, or buying a 20 grand bracelet and calling it a "Russian" style. So if all the girls here are telling you that the dolls behave not like Russians in a lot of cases, accept it and learn something about a foreign culture, and stop arguing!!!  :D

Here is episode 3 - Tough Russian Love

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkqpk1_russian-dolls-tough-russian-love-s01-e03_shortfilms

I think that Renata reveals a few thoughts that are typically associated about Russian gender relationships in her scene with husband Boris.

It seems there are some people who are not to thrilled how their culture is protrayed on TV.  Posted a link below, my local paper picked up the news story through AP.  I was a little suprised to see this story in the paper this morning, not living that close to the east coast.

Thanks, older.

Interesting.  Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus.  Not one of those "Russians" apparently emigrated from Russia. :P

From one of the "Russians" on the programme -
Quote
"I do not party every night," he says. "And I want to marry a nice Jewish girl, not necessarily Russian. Or else, why did my parents send me to yeshiva?"

No, I understand that Russians and others have such ideas, however, I personally do not believe in "blood" and certainly not behaviour dictated by racial blood. I believe in culture, but that culture is acquired, not something that you are born with. Likewise, I am also pointing out that when it comes to identity, that there is the individual's own label, how they see themselves, and the outside labels applied to people. There is no reason why some of the women and others being portrayed cannot consider and understand themselves as "Russian" even if each and every woman here labels them as "Jews." Identity can be very fluid depending with whom you are talking.

oldernotwiser, thanks for the link! That's what I was talking about, it is just a scripted show for sail!  :D

"Marina Levitis later tells the AP. But "on TV, you have to shock people, otherwise they're not going to watch it."

Makhnin, of the business improvement district, agrees, saying she's "not offended" by the show. "It's not a documentary; it's a commercial TV project, with stereotyping," she says.

"Unfortunately," she adds, "this is what the public buys."

I doubt a scene with Teiglach and Matzah made by Eve Levitis would be more selling than a scene with Borsch spiced with repeating word "Russian"  :D especially after such show as 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' (one of my favorites)  :D

Have you regained any respect for Eddie?

None whatsoever! I just watched the new episode, and surprise, surprise!! Eddie continues to act like a douche.. The only reason he doesn't want Anastasia to get back with Vlad is because he wants her for himself.. He couldn't be more obvious, could he? Not to mention, the whole "marriage pact" business is shaaaaaady.. ::) When he showed up at her place after a night of drinking and immediately fell on the floor and started whining about how hard it is to get a one night stand, I thought to myself: is this guy for real? He has no right to criticize any of Anastasia's choices..

I'm glad Anastasia decided to give Vlad a second chance.. He seems to have matured since they broke up a few years ago, and he looks like nice guy too, unlike that creep Eddie.. I hope it works out for them..

On another note, Marina totally screwed her friend on that jewelry exhibition.. Not only did she fail to provide adequate catering services (cheap vodka and hot dogs, are you kidding me?), she did a very poor job advertising her event.. Out of the supposed hundreds of VIP customers how many actually showed up? 20? It's bulls h i t, and Sveta called it.. And on top of that, Marina and that scumbag tax evading FBI suspect husband of hers tried to cheat her out of an expensive piece of jewelry that was worth way more than they had agreed upon.. :rolleyes2: Did you see the look on Marina's MIL's face? It was priceless..

And, roughly 3 minutes in he states that it is the "русское community в Америке"

A nice quote that I found elsewhere:

«“Матрешки” подтверждают то наблюдение, — заключает автор, — что через двадцать лет после развала Советского Союза его изгнанники-евреи нашли в Америке место, где они наконец могут свободно быть русскими».

Only watched one episode of Russian Dolls but the Russian community, including the Russian Jewish community, in London is far more Russian than anything in Brighton Beach or on Russian Dolls.

Just watched episode 5 and here are my thoughts.. WOW, Anastasia really showed her ugly side, didn't she? The entire episode pretty much revolved around her and her lousy personality.. I felt sick to my stomach watching her in that hair salon. She kept dropping f-bombs left and right unhappy with the way her hair was getting done.. Gotta give it to the stylist for keeping her cool and not sticking that curling iron up Ana's ass. And what's with her saying "UH" for every other vowel? What the hUHll, 100 percUHnt.. She's got the most annoying accent of them all. :rolleyes2: Even Renata's accent sounds sexy compared to THAT.. Anyways, I'm glad Ana's behavior came back to haunt her in the end. I felt such a relief when she didn't get picked as one of the calendar girls! Like, serves you right, biatch.. :)

On to Renata and her husband.. Granted a varicose vein is not the most pleasant sight in the world, I think her husband overreacted just a little bit. He was willing to subject her to a surgical procedure to fix it just so he could show her off at the pageant.. Luckily, he came to his senses, and kudos to Renata for saving a thousand dollars!

lmao

But seriously, Marina's voice is just the most awful bar none. I don't think I could stay in the same room as her for more than 5 minutes without losing it totally.

I just feel sorry for any guy unlucky enough to end up with any of these girls. Talk about little princesses.

(I do hope noone here think I am a racist because Jews as a rule have different looks to Slovenic?)

It depends on your rule.  If you say  they look 60 percent jewish; then that is ok.

But it  you say they look 70 percent or more jewish; then you are a racist!!
