approved in Kyiv
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:50:44 AM »
Last Thursday, my wife and her daugher were approved for CR-1 and CR-2 visas.
They got to the  US embassy before 8:00 am. They were the very last to be interviewed. Wife's interview lasted 45 minutes. Daughter 10 minutes. Everything was in English only. At the end they told them: "Welcome to America, you are approved!"

You are not allowed to bring any food or drink into the embassy complex so they were very tired, hungry but happy!

The passports with visas attached should arrive any day now by Fedex. We are making our next plans.

They were asked many questions because of my involvement with a past RW.

Used to be [when Ukraine interviewed in Warsaw] the visa was attached right on the spot.
Also, waiting all day without lunch was unheard of.

Yep, times seem to be changing again.. the K-3/4 petition is no longer being accepted and now must be the CR-1/2 or an IR-1/2 (though I have no idea what the latter is petitioning for).

I have recently been to the embassy in Kiev (for my Letter of Non Impediment) and the lines there, for Ukrainian citizens, are enormous.  Even USA citizens must make an appointment via their website to gain entry unless there is a matter of an extreme nature - missing USA citizen or something equally "emergent".  From witnessing those lines I can easily see how there can be an all day wait there.  Seems though, that the "Interview" should have some kinda of time slot attached to it, thought I guess with this system that would be difficult (one "interview" may consist of a single question, while another may take an hour).

At any rate, yeah, there definitely seems to be some shifts in the system.

We were married 10 Sep 2010 and filed the petition about a month later. It took about 3 months at USCIS, but the delay was at NVC. They wanted some additional documents. The biggest problem was getting a police certificate from Russia. She had to go all the way to Saint Petersburg.

The K-3/4's were taking longer than the immigrant visas; that must be why they eliminated them, if they did.

CR 1/2 is the two year conditional green card.
IR 1/2 is the 10 year green card. You get that if you are already married for two years or more.

Daveman was just recently married, so they should apply for the CR

NVC schedules the interview for immigrant visas. I was at the embassy in Kyiv for the letter last year. It took me about an hour, but there were long lines out in front of the embassy.

Yes, everything is much easier in Poland. I was there for a few weeks in 2002. It is much easier for Americans to get around and to find someone who speaks English
