Russian women who love dogs
« on: October 04, 2011, 09:15:47 AM »
Just a word of advice for men who are just starting to look for a RW for marriage. If you happen to be a dog lover make sure that the woman you're going to marry is just as much a dog lover as you are. Even if a woman is "OK" with dogs she might not be as tolerant when the kids come along and it can become a source of tension in your relationship. If you are somebody who lets his dog/dogs sleep in your bed pay a special attention to this warning and make sure that the woman you are marrying is just as crazy about dogs as you are.

Very very good piece of advice. I don't think i'd be able to live with a guy who has a dog.

Yes, it is a good point.  When I was back in the answering profiles stage I would not respond to any profiles that mentioned they liked dogs or cats.

Still my wife would like a dog and maybe someday I will give in, hopefully a long down the road someday.

I do like dogs, I just don't have any desire to have one and most certainly would not want to sleep with one.

Many years ago I read in some psychology source that people who do not like animals  are actually not very good people and are usually not very kind people.

Yes, yes . . . I know what many think of generalizations but, over the years I have seen a lot of evidence to support this idea.  But, of course, there are exceptions, Ray being a good example.

And luckily, the woman who is living with me is one of the exceptions also.  She always impressed me as a very kind person, but I became somewhat alarmed when she told me she really didn't like to be around dogs, cats or actually any animals.  But after two and a half months together now, she still shows nothing but extreme kindness toward me and other 'humans.'   :D

But, it is a completely different ballgame for those men and women who are 'crazy' about their dog, cat, horse or whatever.  The OP is correct that the 'outsider' must quickly determine what is the situation with this 'animal crazy' person and assess if he/she can live with it.

I have quickly exited a few situations after I saw the woman kissing her dog or cat on the mouth.  I cringed at the idea of the next kiss to that woman knowing that I would also be (in effect) kissing the ass of her pet.  Even worse, I had previously already done it without knowing.   :o
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I have heard something like that expressed a number of times.  Personally I would rather be thought of as an ogre than to have to have another dog.

I think dogs are great company and I enjoy being around them but have had enough experiences that soured me on having one that I do hope that I can avoid that.

I have had one rental house virtually destroyed and another badly damaged.  I had a girlfriend whose life was so much worse by the 2 greyhounds she had adopted that I cringe when I think about it.  Things like she worked in a bank and the dogs stayed in all day and used papers.  The papers were in the dining room and when we ate the smell was overpowering.  Not to mention that her furniture and lots of her clothes were destroyed.

I have had enough mornings where I stepped out of bed to feel something squish between my toes, when I was on the edge of the bed becuase the litttle furry one had cuddled so close there was no room left for me and I was afraid of hurting him, that you would wake up in the middle of the night with vomit somewhere it shouldn't be, of seeing carpets and clothes destroyed or damaged, of having to get up in the middle of the night to let the dog out, of going to the vets and coming away with a bill that should cover a human and having to get prescription dog food and to try and get the dog to take medicine,  of running around picking up crap.  I like dogs but I like a clean house.  I like running around without shoes and not worrying about what I am stepping in,  I like not having to brush a sweater before I wear it.  I like not having a dog but I do like dogs.

Turbo, it sounds as if those you know who had dogs didn't know how to take care of them.

We don't have a dog, despite the fact the kids want one, because having a dog is like having another child.  It's a big responsibility.  Plus, I don't want to have to deal with vaccuuming dog hair off my area rugs daily.  But, both my siblings have dogs (one has two), and their dogs never have house accidents.  The dogs are in the house all day while my siblings and their spouses are at work/kids at school.

My MIL in Kyiv always had a dog (the last one, a Great Dane), and again, very clean.  We also had a neighbour's dog who would scratch at the door if he didn't get back to his apartment before his "mother" left for work.  He'd hang out in the hallway, asking for water and the occasional sausage, until she came home.   We'd tell him his mother is home, and off he'd go.

Ray, you have moved the conversation from 'liking animals' to letting animals live in  the house.  Not quite the same thing.

Turbo, it seems you just had a bad experience with dogs. Not all dogs are like that. You need to spend a lot of time teaching the dog, so it grows up a nice polite mostly clean and friendly creature. I just don't like them. I like a kitty :) Dogs aren't as cuddly or soft as a cat. Dog fur is just too different from cat fur. And i just really hate a gigantic wet tongue licking you  :rolleyes2: Cat tongue isnt that wet and it's tiny, and they don't lick you normally. Dogs seem to do it way too much :) Also dog nose cold and wet and icky and they always nudge you with it. Eugh

I would have no problem with an outside dog but that is not what most want.  I will say that we had some dogs in my first marriage which were not too bad.  Both were small and neither shed and since my first wife was stay at home she could let them out.  Perhaps there was an occassional accident but not often enough to be much of a problem.  Still I would not go barefoot in the house because of the dogs and even in shoes when I walked across the kitchen floor you could feel your feet sticking to the floor.

There can be a lot of differences in how a dog is trained and their behavior but truthfully I have no real desire to have another but would be most happy to spend hours petting and playing with someone elses.

Yes, this is an ideal situation.  I am a real sucker for puppies.  I love to play with them.  I  wouldn't mind breeding dogs at some point  in the future . . . just so I could play with the puppies.  Throwing balls for them to chase, playing tug with a sock or old wash cloth; almost as much fun as sex with a woman.

Another thing too is that they normally only last 12 to 15 years and when you have to take one on it's final trip it can be a pretty sad thing.

Two way street.

I go out of my way to be crystal clear that no cat is going to be in my home or car. Neither do I ride around in the cars of those who have them. Finding out a gal owned a cat was an immediate exclusion from the dating pool.

I remember one AW who couldn't believe I wouldn't waste time dating and would not allow her to sit in my car or accept a ride in her car due to picking up the cat hair and dander. She just couldn't figure it out.

So extreme. I had a cat at home, and now we don't have any pets. Just cuz u had one at home, doesn't mean you are going to run to get one in your new home. I do love cats, but i can't be bothered picking up after them, so i am not going to get one.

Yes, indeed  :arguing:
My wife did have dogs when she was a kid growing up but she was neutral to them. She was OK with my old shepherd when she came here, although when the second baby came along and started crolling she didn't want the dog inside any more because of all the sheding. And GSD do shed a lot...
Now that we have 3 German Shepherds, a 5 year old daughter in kindergarten and a 2 year old pumpkin at home she gets irritated by the dogs even though they stay in our garage and not in the house. We did agree that one dog will stay in the house (once I'm able to get rid of the tick problem that started about 6 weeks ago).
I'm crazy about dogs, GSD in particular and we've had our share of arguments over this issue. We both have to compromise and go on, but I thought that RWD members could benefit from my experience by making sure that you and your future significant other generally has the same views on pets in general and dogs in particular.
I adore dogs - they are pure creatures who love unconditionally. My wife on the other hand sees them as "extra work and the source of dirt". Luckily we negotiated a mutually acceptable compromise for now...

I hope you didn't mean me when you were mentioned impolite.  In my case it was not a deliberate search for (as man looking put it) "someone who was not a nice person" but I really just didn't want to have more pets and didn't want to look for someone who was a real animal lover and would be really disappointed without pets.  I wanted to be able to make the woman I married happy and I won't say I could never change my mind but having a pet appeals to me about as much as having the flu.

Some substantial differences among the various breeds.  Some are not big on licking.  Miniature Schnauzers for example.

Also there is a big difference on the 'tongue hanging out syndrome.'  Some dogs always have their tongue out and are breathing heavily, even when it is not hot and they are not exerting themself.  Other breeds rarely have their tongue out.

I've always had the cat's meow. Just luv 'em felines and I always had a cat companion since I was a little boy. When I was single, my cat, Elton, literally decided for me on who gets to stick around a while...

When my wife first arrived, she and Elton didn't get along fairly well. That's in large part because she's partial to canines. She did began to like my other cat Joni and they eventually bonded. She couldn't believe much less understand how these cats would love sleeping with me....

When those two left for kitty heaven, we didn't have the furry companions for a year until she couldn't take it anymore. She convinced me (imagine that) to adopt two new ones....took her about a month before I gave in.

Now, there's never a day gone by without Sidney and Sasha giving her so much unconditional love and joy and she back t them. Now her morning isn't complete when these two aren't anywhere near her when she wakes up...even worries about them when we leave for vacation....like I used to always do.  :P

Wanted to also add: My wife also added to my annual charitable donation pledges to a couple of kitty/animal rescue organization here in LA. In addition to actively participating in occasional events benefitting rescue animals especially cats all year long.

Now that "Russian women who love dogs" thread seems to be running out of steam, maybe we could start a "Dogs who love Russian women" thread and see if it goes beyond just one page?
There is another idea: "Russian dogs who love women".  ;D
