Noelscott,

Think about this one:

I, (name), take you, (name), to be my [opt: lawfully wedded] (husband/wife), my constant friend, my faithful partner and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, and in joy as well as in sorrow. I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

Best,

E

Those are some good vows.

P.S. Anyone who wants to hear a really interesting personal story may P.M. me.

Noelscot, I'm 29 years old and I have never been married, so it's my belief  that marriage is more about how you and your girlfriend feel about each other and your future together. Even being  a cohabitating couple you and your girlfriend are less likely to experience the amount  of belonging and responsibility enjoyed by a married couple. And the sense of emotional fulfillment coming from marriage, it cannot be challenged,   in my opinion, of course.

If you want to keep your expressions convergent, never allow them a single degree of freedom.

I agree with you, Ghost. In the main, marriage is saying "Hey, we're really serious about one another and let's make a life together." Dating someone is never going to compare to marriage. It's a necessary step, but it is not a substitute.

Noelscot, be aware that "the lyrics" may vary! :) For example, "Hey! There are some threads sewing us together now and we both realize we want hundreds of new threads to sew us through the years".
The most important thing is to recognize "THE TUNE"  :)

SANDRO43! Considering that the rhythm of the Marriage chant must match one syllable with each two beats in men's hearts, some of the tunes that you've suggested  should be reconsidered, in my opinion   :)

The very first message in this thread made me feel uncomfortable for some reason. The more I read, the more pressured and smothered I felt. I actually felt like somebody tries to make me feel guilty for something I haven't even done :)
That said, I am family-oriented person and do think all the things the OP stated are right.

If that was somebody's profile info on a dating site the chances are I'd never reply..

Noelscot:

Me thinks that your approach to marriage as a contract has the ladies in a tiff. (Ladies, correctme if I'm wrong)

When I saw what you wrote, I got the impression that you are warning of legal consequences IF anyone violates this contract AND its stipulations.

Point is, no feelings or emotions. Too practical and business-like. Very non-matrimonial.

I don't think women would be attracted to this, unless they are buying a car.

Sometimes a song can say everything I am too inept too express in my own words. I am in complete agreement with the sage scholar and gentlemen, George Jones, in what he says about marriage in his song, "My Loving Wife":

If two people are living together, they can have and raise children, sign banking and other documents together, and do everything that a married couple can do..except:

take certain tax deductions
may not be eligible for certain health benefits from the partners work
cannot sue for alimony ( sometimes)

I'm sure there are a few more. I know some "couples" who have been together for many years and unless they told you, you would have no idea they were "just companions" and not a married couple.

But if you are looking to find a woman in the FSU, and bring her here on a K1, you have no choice. Gotta get married.

At one point in time I was actively pursuing the whole FSU thing, but I am not anymore.
A personal experience changed my mind.
I thank God for showing me what could have possibly been in store for me if I had decided to go that route.

Marriage and Love go hand in hand - the opening line I would be attracted to   ;D

Noelscot, do you mean that your  decision on the issue  has been "cemented" by some personal things that have happened to you and now you don't keep an open mind about it, while residing within your personal experiences?

Gator, It would be impolite for me to go into details. Other people I know (in real life) read this forum. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings (at least anymore than I've already done).

Noelscot, I hope that now you are peacefully all going your own way with no hard feelings  :-\
and I feel confident that this will delight all including those involved.
