But she got her visa and they are happy together with their little kid.

"Interdieszna," the sound of the Russian word for Interesting. I just talked with a friend, 62 (I'm 36, my fiancee is 17), and he has been married twice to 2 different Russians via the fiancee visa. He's working on his third right now. He insists that Fiancee Visa is the only way to go (to use the 90 days to get to know her better - the one he's with, his gf right now is on her second visa, the first 90 days expired last Summer, he's rich, a doctor, she's 47), that going to Moscow to marry can take 2 years as opposed to only 9 months with the Fiancee Visa.

I'm taking in all opinions before my vacation in a few months to make the leap to get the ball rolling. He says to have her take a train to Moscow, that trains are the mode of transportation there from the distances she's at. I'd never thought of that. I'd thought of how poor she is and how she'd never be able to afford a plane ticket, but will now ask her to make that train trip in a few months to Moscow.

But, as you say, getting married over there, may be a healthier foundation for us to remember with her family being there, so I'm still undecided as to which path to marriage I should take.

Next time do an initial screening to make sure she can afford to purchase an air ticket to visit you in America.   After all, you are the American.   It is like the McDonald's employee in Russia asking his store manager, "Why should we be friendly to the customers, we have the hamburgers?"

My own view on these e-relationships is it's best to have a few going at one time as it dilutes the disappointment should things go south.

The thing about these scams is that the rules of a market must indicate that there is still a game here.  Perhaps things are so bad in FSU for some that even with a low ROI it is better than doing nothing, but with so much information on the internet and clearly the relationships happening over the internet I have to believe the supply of the gullible is very low.  I would love it if an FSU country actually had this industry as part of their economic forecast.  Wonder where it would rank, many I guess would put it under "Tourism and Hospitality"

I didn't read the beginning tale here; but  I think the idea has a lot of merit, and could even be taken further.

It would seem to be a fairly efficient procedure to get engaged and married without ever meeting . . . and then after some interval, to get divorced also.

Would probably be a lot cheaper by saving money on the airfares, etc.

She has a ZAGS locally so why do you need to do everything in Moscow? I'm speaking from experience as someone who married in Russia also. There are some documents you'll need from the Embassy, etc, but something feels very wrong here.

More importantly, you're in no position to marry. I doubt you'd buy a house or car unseen and don't you think a wife, a person, is much more important than buying a car?! Slow down, visit more than once and get to know her and her family. Then consider marriage. You can't "buy" a wife sight unseen and please spare all the email and calls and Skypes cause they don't count as being in person.

ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW HER, then you can arrange a ZAGS wedding in her region for the entire family to enjoy. You can get around that 30 day rule, legally without being stupid and attempting a bribe, but I won't tell you how until you have gotten to know and have courted her in person.

17 year olds like to play house.....  for a while, until the idea starts to become the reality and it is not all prince, princess, and fairy tales.  Than they think twice about the whole idea.

Try 26 or older you will have better luck.
