How to buy air tickets Toronto-Moscow-Toronto?

Booked a better one - non-stop Transaero (T-M(DME) -T) for $935,-

If you had found a better deal tax and fees would have been larger.  $1100 Lily doesn't strike me as a good deal at all. Is that the lowest you found after much searching?

I did find a flight YYZ-MOSCOW with stop in NY with Transaero at $999.....$850 was for flight and taxes were $148!!! At moment Finair has cheapest flights...
Remember Lily's quote was in CAD which in USD would be another ~$25 dollars

She told me that their agency has a contract with Transaero that allows them to sell tickets at a certain price. I thought that I likely will not find a better price even with one stopover, let alone for a non-stop flight, so I went ahead.

It's probably a little higher than an average deal. Planning often can make a difference and also be oh so frustrating. You did good
