I came across this page:  http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/best-places-born-2013-175300116.html
According to it US now slid to #16 on yahoo quality of life index 2012. I think it does effect a search for an FSU wife. Lucky for us, Russia is still #72 on the list but where are we going to be at 4 years from now? Higher or lower? It's more of a rhetorical question since most of us have a pretty good idea.
On the other hand our Canadian brothers up North are looking pretty good :)))

Can't sleep.
Last 6 months we have had 292 people killed in Chicago vs. 221 in Iraq.

Yeah, but those deaths were the Chicago Bears facing my Packers.  LOL!  I wouldn't be able to sleep if I were in Chicago either.

Woow Switzerland on the first place.I´m living 5 minutes away from the Swiz Border and I can say it´s the truth they have written there -->> "With its small but very stable economy, Switzerland comes in first, wealthy, healthy and trusting of its public institutions"
I asked many Swiz people which came here in Summer to watch the "Bregenzer Festspiele" why they dont want to join the European Union. They told me, that there is no need to join it.Switzerland has a very stable currency and they dont belive that the European Union will solve the problems which they have until today (Greece,Spain,Italy,Portugal..all those Countrys are bankrupt. And they also have a very high joblessness, especially  by the young people. In comparison to other Countrys in Europe the Swiz has a very stable middleclass because of the very high salaries people get there. One of my girlfriends worked from 2005 to 2008 as a Bartender ( 3 times a week) in a popular Club in Zürich City. Her Salary was 4500 Schweizer Franken (those are around € 3710) .For the same job in another Club in Stuttgart she was getting around €2400.So she earned around € 1000 more in Switzerland. So  this EIU Report could defintly be true.

And the Swiss should be commended on their economic system.  It should also be noted that it is very difficult for foreigners to immigrate to Switzerland.  Their country does not seem to be polluted with lower class, uneducated, non skilled immigrants.  The last time I checked (a few years ago) their immigration polices seemed nearly impossible for a middle class American to comply with.

Liberals and the far left (as well as the far right) will ultimately bring down any great civilization. Unfortunately this seems to be the natural progression of things (birth/death cycle that effects everything in the Universe) and we are witnessing the decline of the greatest civilization of the 20th Century - the United States of America. Sure, the success of this civilization could have been prolonged for a bit longer but with the onset of the liberal policies, eventually the ignorant, the clueless and the entitled ones will become the majority and this is what we witnessed last November. So at this point we are just going to witness a gradual decline of the US unless some terrible event like a devastating natural disaster or a terrorist attack will speed up the process and this country is going to go through a very serious economic and political crisis. The crisis will pass and the US will still be here but it will never (meaning in our lifetime) be the same great country as it used to be.

You know Eduard, every generation says the same thing. I remember reading about what 'normal' older folks used to say about rocknroll....it will kill our civilization ans ruin the younger generation!!! Same thing happened in the 60's with the hippies. Even going back to the 'communnist hollywood' comunity days.....the country is going to 'pot'!!!!!! it is funny when you look back!!! In another 20-30 years I will read about how the country is not as great as it used to be( comparing it to early 21st century)......it is what it is..
To be honest...who knows what the future holds.... a  friend in one time period can be an enemy is another....

The best and easiest way if you wanted to live there is to get employment with an international organisation in the Geneva area (as I did), or one of the other big corporations in, for instance, Zurich. Yes, it used to be difficult to get citizenship but not impossible once you live and work there; not sure if that's changed much since I left.

It's an expensive place to live though - owning a house in Geneva for example, is pretty much unlikely for most people, in fact, if they want a house, most move just across the border into France (which has its own set of annoyances) and commute into Geneva every day. Also, if some Americans think their "big government" is stifling and controlling, good luck with Switzerland!  lol

There is not any European country which would not be seen as Socialist by the most Democratic Americans. And that includes Switzerland.
Switzerland is still profiting from its bank business, and in times of crisis where taxes are raised they just earn more because of it. Should they ever be forced to remove their bank secret the country will be bankrupt in months.

The remarkable thing however is their democratic system. Switzerland is one of the very few countries where a real democracy is in place. For every important law the people will vote, not by representation but by actual vote.
This system makes it harder to push through laws that politicians may see as beneficial but the majority of people feel are not going to bring any good.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

I didn't know that, very interesting! Thanks, Shadow!
