Actually due to current budget manipulation, the consulate has to farm out some jobs to private contractors.

I have applied for one of the jobs that is specifically designated as the one responsible for sex with female applicants.  And I am not grumpy!!
Hmm... Have you cleared this with "My Gal"?  :devilish:

If she is 42, then she was born in 1971, and was just 18 when the Soviet Union collapsed, just started her undergraduate education. Her undergraduate and graduate education took places in the 90-s and early 2000s, the worst time most FSU people had to live through, when being in academia was one of the lowest paid and generally hon-gratifying, jobs. Profesoors had to sell things in the open markets after work and on the weekends to survive. If anything, I would commend her for sticking to academia through those crazy times and making it to the Associate Professor.

Yes. Some folk received partial payment in cigarettes, vodka and soap as examples. That "wild 90s" was a time when some women might have done things to survive that most would rather not know, but such was certainly not common in Soviet times.

Yeah, but are the benefits any good?

Absolutely! She had sex with that old grumpy AW at the American consulate in Kiev. The one that holds visa interviews. This is the only way for Ukrainian female Associate Professors to get a 5-year visa to the US. Duh!

LOL!  I get the point.  Hey, no harm no fowl in asking questions.

Oh, she probably doesn't have any. But you know, dem women Ukrainian Associate Professors all have such low morality - they would do anything, and I mean, ANYTHING to get a visa to the US. Sleeping with an old grumpy AW is just a minor blimp. You need to study, GQ!  :naughty:

LOL, so true...

I do know her father is a former KGB high ranking officer.  The plot thickens.

So what? Was he part of the plot to kill Kennedy?

Then just out of curiosity Judge, knowing that, why would you suspect the 'worst' of the gal?

If she were to have had sex it would have been with someone in U.S Homeland Security, have you seen those folks? Shutter the thought. If that's the case you wouldn't want her.

That said, I think you can see from the prevailing experience on the board that the 5 year is somewhat more common (with this I'll agree as I know a few).

Have you met her in person?

Thanks for the comment.  Yes, I met her in person.  We had a wonderful time.  Now it is time to get down to business.  Knowing each other's background is critical.  I'm not concerned about the past as long as we are both truthful.  I for one do not want to become serious with any woman, no matter where they are from, unless I know their background.  Being a PHD, or Doctor, lawyer, clerk, model, what have you, has no bearing on a person's private life.  We all know this to be the case.  If you don't know a person's background before becoming serious, you are a fool in my opinion.

Judges,

So far it seems you are:
1. Still living the Cold War
2. Suspect of any FSUW for being a scammer
3. Under the impression your PenPalProfessor might dish out 'illegal' favours to obtain a visa.

Are you interested in a relationship or trying to get material for a spy novel ?

No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

That's great. Then with all your worldly experience, with women and otherwise you are fully aware that her and you are only in an exploratory stage of a possible budding relationship? You are familiar with her having met once. She already has a multi-entry visa. I'd suggest continue to explore, invite her for a visit. Chances are great she didn't get that visa with her legs in the air or anything else unethical.

The FSU is full of people with histories and her father may be one, maybe not. Some folks were not very nice to others, c'lest a vie.

If you find yourself very interested in this woman, drop the suspicions and get on with the business of getting to know her. You strike me as suspicious by nature, there's nothing wrong with that. Just don't let it torpedo your relationship before it gets in motion.

Good Luck and  :welcome:

As in the West, former KGB/SNB officers generally don't reveal they work for the secret service.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Well with Havank having switched between temporary and eternal you might resurrect the name for a crime fighter. Though I am unsure if you could match his choice of pijamas or villains like Tixe Ycnegreme.

In past years we have had people here who have hired detectives. Do you want to go this far. Relax. Meet her again and see if you really connect. Then let your heart take over.
I once asked my wife a question about something in the past and her reply was   "do I ask you ?"  Truth is, she was and is a really nice woman and it wasn't nice of me to pry.

BOG,

You are an idiot and a fool.  Most of the "red flag" information I gleaned is from this web site.  Take your childish comments and shove them where they belong.  You are very niave.

Being that the visa is issued by the American Embassy and not by Russian officials, the intelligent answer would be neither.

Interesting.  She told me the Visa was granted by the Ukraine Embassy.
