Muzh, I know how it is to live together 13 years. See her almost each day. Hear her voice around all the time. Eat food she cooks.

Muzh, you're disproving the age-old superstition about 13 which apparently originated from Jacques de Molay's, last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, being burned allegedly on Friday 13th, 1314 on orders King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Templars - old story that repeated itself many times in history ;).


On the contrary, 13 is considered a lucky number here, also maybe because our old football pools were based on guessing the results of 13 matches - thus 'scoring a 13' was hitting the jackpot. Conversely, 17 is considered unlucky: 'a Disgrazzia (La sfortuna) in the Smorfia, the Neapolitan tradition of interpreting dreams to obtain numbers for our Lotto.

Sandro, if he was burnt on Friday 13th, why does the plaque in your photo show the date as the 18th of March?

Probably there was a confusion with a previous event, when Philip IV carried out mass arrests in a well-coordinated dawn raid that left several thousand Templars in chains: Friday October 13th, 1307.

BTW, the Julian calendar was still in effect then - superseded by the Gregorian calendar in 1582 - which also may be a cause for the date mix-up ::).
