4 months with Babooshka
« on: June 07, 2013, 09:51:37 PM »
Well,

My mother-in-law went back to Russia today.  She was here 4 months.

Totally bummed - great lady, easy house mate and so ridiculously helpful with the baby.

Night duties coming my way again.

We think she will return for 6 months in Jan.

Just though I would post as most people usually assume I'm bummed having my MIL around.  Surprised even me we got along so well even if all we did was smile and nod at each other a lot.

It's great that you got along well with MIL.  How did your wife feel about her leaving?
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Well, that might be the secret behind getting along.    ;)    I'm kidding, your MIL must be happy that her daughter is happy, that's all.

The best thing of marrying a RW is the RMIL. Their energy is amazing.

Too true!  I spent quite a bit of time with my woman friend's mother on my first trip to Russia - I would have loved to have her as a MIL, because she seemed so much better than the real (English) one that I had had!  Of course, she would have been on her best behaviour during that week... >:D

Good to hear and the same I observe with my MIL being here. She will stay until July 11, close to 2 1/2 months in total. She is of great help with baby Erik who she obviously loves beyond all others and having previously had some gardening experience, she finds pleasure tending to our garden whenever she feels like it. We can't communicate either, it's the occasional Russian and English word and smiling and nodding like you also said  :D

My wife and I have also been blessed by a long visit by babushka.  No baby to care for, so instead every day she pulled weeds, brushed my Great Dane, etc.  It seemed babushka could not sit for long and relax.  We rarely communicated directly, limited to a few Russian salutations and such.

She would ask questions indirectly, third person, such as "Why is he eating red meat!"  A good and pleasant woman.  I could never get her going about Soviet-American politics, a subject I thought we could discuss because she is less than decade older than me.

It was about this time that my Great Dane started to follow the women around the house rather than me.  I believe it is more than the fact that they give her snacks, sometimes some fine food.

My MiL is great too but my wife has butted heads with her already on some baby stuff. Lol MIL has to listen to wifey here. ;)

Phil, when your Great Dane has/makes puppies, invite its MIL to join the party, too ;D.

Sounds familiar, hehe. There's appartently some small time family drama in our Ukrainian family of mother and two daughters also, where words are exchanged and someone (in their words) are "offended" and retreat for a while. Fortunately it is short-lived and all is okay after a little time-out  :D

But man, can those Russians be moooooooody........ sometimes.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
