Is Kiev good?
« on: June 16, 2013, 11:53:09 AM »
I am probably going to Kiev this July, to stay there 1-2 weeks.

Are there any good ways of meeting Ukrainian, preferably English speaking, women there? Maybe some agency one can go to to get some date in case of emergency.

I have been using an online dating site and have pretty good contact with one woman from Kiev. But would like to meet more.

In general, do you think that Kiev is a good city to meet women or is in the countryside that the best girls can be found? I probably won't have time to go to the countryside much this trip though.

From Kiev to the countryside is 30 minutes by bus. ;D
As for Kiev being any good, I know I enjoyed my short stay there.

And look at it this way: if the woman turns out to be not marriage material for your taste, where would you rather be, in a city with numerous international venues or on a farm. ;D
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

I will relate my experiences and opinions and you can decide for yourself.  I have made several trips and most of them are for 1-3 months duration each.  A lot of time exploring the villages and farms and meeting people and making friends.  You can read about my last adventure here: http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=15123.0

If you are on a short time table, you might want to stick to Kiev or one of the larger cities.  If you are going on your trip with the idea of meeting a prospective bride, the pure numbers of women in Kiev might be the best bet.

If this is your first trip, it will give you a little feel for the culture and more or less an introduction to a new world.  Don't for a moment think that you will get a grasp of the culture of the nation.  It is far broader in scope than you will see from Kiev.   Like any major city, you will see only the environment of a large city and it is far different than the villages and rest of the country.

Many members have suggested that if you find youself seriously wanting to marry a Ukrainian woman, you need to spend time studying the history and culture as well as spending the time to explore the country also.  I concur with this thought.   Developing an interest in her country will earn you points you can't imagine....yet.

IMHO, if you are a big city guy you might not like the villages as it is a different world and somewhat primitive compared to the city.  If you are a rural kind of guy, you might like the villages and the people that live there.  Ukraine is very diverse and there is so much to see and enjoy, it will take many trips to even put a dent in discovering what it has to offer.

Should you be lucky enough to find someone with similar interests and personality, you might ask her if she is interested in going to Crimea.  If so, I would suggest taking the overnight train from Kiev to Sevastopol in Crimea.   That city alone, will keep you busy for at least a week.

Good luck on your adventure.  You can always PM me, if you want to discuss any specifics.

I've loved Kiev every trip I've had there and July and August are IMO the best times to go (also the most expensive). My gal is from the countryside about 30 km outside Kiev - we met in Kiev the first time, and it worked out pretty well, so I guess I have an opinion about city girl vs country girl.

I have been to Kiev a ton of times and always liked it there a lot.   I have met some nice ladies there.  Some feel that Kiev is a little overshopped since is so easy to get to that lots of guys go there but you only need one woman to be the right one and if you don't like the ladies from Kiev you can head somewhere else the next time.
If the plans fall through there are several agencies in Kiev where you can line up some dates with women on short notice.  Elena's Models has an office in the Impressa hotel and Kiev Connections is another there.   It has been quite some time since I was there but I believe both of those are still operating.

Kiev is great. just walk down the main drag and say hello. You will meet a ton of women. How honest/worthy/interested they may be is a wholel different story. but meeting them is not difficult at all.

Hmmm...   Ok, lets play this scenario - you say "Hello" to a random women and then what?

Well it's simple. Whip out your passport....if you are from USA.....then let her follow you back to your apartment 8)

Seriously though.....that sounds awkward and a long shot.

Kiev is a nice modern city and the girls from the countryside enjoy meeting in Kiev( at least one did :)

To get a feel for the villages I can recommend the Open Air Museum. If you take a woman with you, be sure she is prepared to walk a lot, it is quite big.

Which one is it? One or two?

One week is a waste of time.

There is NO "finger" to give.

Spending 4 days was long enough for me ;D

I guess we just differ.  ;D

Even if I lived in Germany, for example, I would spend as much time as I could in Kyiv.

And Munich will appear to be relatively spotless.

+1 - we both loved that museum. Lots of old wooden windmills, wooden churches and traditional houses depicting Ukrainian village life of 100 - 200 years ago. All the original structures were moved there from all over Ukraine. My gal remembered going there on school trips when she was a child, only difference now is all the guard shacks are empty.

Know as Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine located in Pyrohiv/Pirogov south of Kiev, but not only just 100-200 years ago...I think it goes back into the 16th century.....very interesting place for historians!!!!

Yes, and I think the "facilities" go back to the 16th century as well! They were all of the stoop and poop design and I recall wishing I would have taken care of business before we had arrived!

hmmmm....I guess we went to different ones. The guide I had did mention to us when we had a 'facility' available well into the tour, lady was inside a booth and it was a few grivna, but was like most public ones in the center, it was built near a small hill if I remember correctly.
Maybe you should have waited till you arrived in the most recent periods????  :P

Ha! Yes, they wanted to give me the total village experience! These potty's were on the opposite side of the museum, from the main entrance, right next to the little museum restaurant, but this was back in '08 so maybe they've upgraded since then.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It seems most of you think it is a good idea to go to Kiev. Even if I don't have many contacts before going there? Quite a few ladies I write to on UkraineDate.com don't reply but some do. It seems to be a genuine and good site though.

Well more than one week. 10-14 days.

Kiev is great. just walk down the main drag and say hello. You will meet a ton of women. How honest/worthy/interested they may be is a wholel different story. but meeting them is not difficult at all.

I had the opportunity to test this theory out today.
I was a little disoriented after a walk in a park.

As I approached the first woman I could see (I wasn't selecting the most appealing one to me) I couldn't help but think of viking's comment about saying hello to women on the street.   :)

I asked her which way it was to a Metro station in my limited Russian.
She replied in English! It was clear to see that she was more than happy to have a conversation with me.
She told me immediately that she was an English teacher and asked where I was from.

She wasn't really my type, but yeah, I could see this approach working again.   :)
