I might be late to the discussion (and didn't bother to read pages 2,3,4)

Had never been to Russia and went there for a month not knowing anything except "privet" in Russian... I wouldn't do it without meeting someone. Nothing to see that would ever make me want to visit that country again now that my babe is going to come here. My full experience: Google translate app for Android is awesome and I'd suggest an unlocked phone/pick up a SIM at the airport. Add the Russian keyboard and offline russian package for Google Translate to your phone before you go. Don't bother with any WiFi cracking gear since they VPN from their network to the internet so you need a certificate on your computer even if you get on the damn WiFi in many cases... Beeline :-/

I was met by my Russian babe at the airport who speaks very little English but can write/read pretty good. I had 0 problems... I went to the middle of nowhere and had such funny experiences as we were having a bonfire and it started spreading across a huge field... no one cared "it'll go out when it gets to the road" and like 20 feet away they have an SUV running on propane... They bought charcoal and got pissed it wasn't catching on fire. They had never used it before which resulted in it getting tossed and using wood which made me chuckle.

I had 12 teeth worked on including multiple root canals and they did as good of job as in the U.S. if not better. (tuladent.ru) They didn't speak any english and many places make you wear bags on your feet though. 12 teeth about $1200... about 1/5 the price as here. They understood ouch when on my 6th? visit they had trouble numbing a tooth.

I was told I wasn't very manly because I moved out of people's way and did not know how to tell people to move out of my way or excuse me... ha ha... I think I could have lived off of about $200 USD or less since I stayed with my babe. Culture there is really different... Got off the plane and passport control when another line opened they ran to fill it. Literally a sprint it seemed. Picked up a bottle of Hennessy and it was like $120 = they'd never had it, bought a bottle of tequila and had them taking shots with me/salt/lemon (ghetto store didn't have limes)

All of the people I had met seemed to think Russia was this horrible place and where I lived was what they saw on TV. Had to pop that bubble and explain that I may make more but my rent is literally over 10x theirs, etc. Oh, they thought US cops murder people often too. Pretty ill-informed about what the US is like at least. We watched a ton of movies either in Russian with English Subtitles or English with Russian Subtitles. Most of the Radio was the same music as in the US.

I think I blended in fine in my leather jacket I bought at Goodwill for $10. Shoes were definitely different styled. We did a little site seeing but everything was in Russian so it was pretty pointless unless you like looking at pretty crap with no clue what it is.

Girl was awesome. Already trying to import her. Won't see an American girl jump out of the car into rain/mud with a screwdriver to fix her car when it still runs. (in fact I know pretty girls that knew how but just sit there pretending to be distressed to get a guy to even install wiper blades so they wouldn't have to in the rain).. Maybe a redneck one but not a college educated gorgeous blonde.

That's the spirit! The little woman can give up everything and do all the adapting. Since she comes from a junk country she can carry a tool kit around and fix things when she isn't busy bringing you a sandwich and beer.

As for charcoal, I've never met only a handful of Russians who don't use it on a regular basis for shashlik (BBQ). Were they drunk at the time or was the charcoal wet?

They politely played humble to ask what you thought of Russia. That was a test. I'm guessing that you didn't pass but at least you did burst some bubbles.

Already trying to import her.

You can save quite a bit on used ship containers. They're a bit rusty but I believe the port taxes are cheaper when off-loading in the USA.

Also glad that you got your mouth worked on while there. Next trip I'd recommend the brain surgery as it is cheaper as well.

And how was your perception of Russia different?

So the "babe" can't speak enough to tell you about a park, a war memorial, a thousand year old church, a museum or any other pointless but pretty crap but she is worthy to "import" because of ...?

If you think it's love now, wait until she learns English and you can actually understand each other!

As we say here in England, a wind up, surely?! Please be a wind up.

I was wondering how long that one would make it without a response

I give you credit for going. I know your plan was to "knock her up". Any word if she is pregnant?

C'mon Mendy. Cut him a little slack.

He sounds very young so that may explain his stupid remarks. He doesn't know any better and by reading the rest, either he doesn't care or is a fcuking idiot.

Maybe his "babe" is in the same league?
To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine - The American Crisis 1776-1783
