This is where ladies want to leave. Hell, everyone wants to leave one of the most oppressive governments in the FSU. Uzbekistan was the last of the "Stans" to certify my personal credentials as a journalist and although I've traveled there occasionally, it is illegal to practice journalism without government approval.

Tashkent was the scene of the first Jewish wedding I attended in the Soviet Union and later the first Muslim wedding I attended was in Uzbekistan. There aren't many Jews left in the country.

Tashkent is a beautiful city and the people are beautiful as well. But under the surface, well that is another matter.

The BBC's Simon Reeve again does a good job in this series and I hope that you will enjoy this video on Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Of special interest to this forum is a brief visit to a MOB agency in Tashkent. You might find it interesting to hear what the girls say about Western men.
