Where to go.
« on: April 21, 2006, 10:20:44 PM »
Perhaps a few of you travelers can tell me where would be a good place for me to visit. My choices are; Hong Kong, Beijing, Bangkok, Instanbul, and maybe Rome. Maybe not Rome either. I am going to met an RW from central Russia. I have no desire to go there so I decided to meet her somewhere. I can travel free if I restict my trip to one of those aforementioned cities. The second consideration is where she will be allowed a tourist visa. I know that Istanbul and Bangkok is a go and that China is a maybe and that Rome is a possible if she books with a tour group. I have visited Rome and Hong Kong before. I know what is there but not the other cities. Which would you recommend? And I don't need to hear, "You should go to her city. See how she lives. Meet her family."  No...not going to happen. I have no desire at this time to visit south central Russia. I'm more looking for a vacation this trip and as I said I fly free to any of those cities that I mentioned.

Thanks   Peewee

Well there are advantages to Bangkok if she somehow doesn't show.  Rome she would need a visa for.  If you do italy for a gal, maybe venice and Florence might be better.  I love Rome though.    I have never heard anything one way or the other about a visa for China.  The gal I dated some in Kiev had been there but we did not talk about visas.  Check out deltas site if China appeals to you.  Haven't been to istanbul to have any input.

I sent her a list of where I was thinking of going and asked her to visit a travel agency to find out where they said she could go, meaning obtain a tourist visa. What was that, One night in Bangkok can make a grown man humble? I met a Russian lady in Hong Kong (Gong Kong as she called it) two years ago so I know the tourist visa is possible for that city. I can conduct some business  while in Hong Kong which gives me the tax write off for the trip. Not so for the other cities. Bangkok is cheap to live so that is appealing. Rome is romantic and I have not visited Rome for a few years. I mean the pope is there and everything but I have never remembered the guy's name so that is not so important to me. Thanks for the ideas, Turbo.

You know you can go on Delta's site and check the visa requirements there in a few seconds.   Don't thank me till after you read my response to your post about the officiating.   You might not be speaking to me again after that.

PeeWee,

I have been to most of those cities and the best, IMHO is Hong Kong. It is beautiful, especially on Stanley. Bejing is too polluted, Bangkok is too unsafe.

I appreciate your opinion. I have visited hong kong and I am leaning toward it. I have a friend, the same guy that runs the ground service at the airport at P-K who has a business that ships from a factory not too far from Hong Kong. He spends a lot of time in China as a result and over nights in Hong Kong many times during the year. He gave me the name of the hotel that he says at...not to stereotype anyone...but he is not only a multi million air but a tight wad on top of that. I highly respect his opinion about the hotel. In August the weather will be hot and humid but my son has been learning to read, write and speak Chinese. Although he is learning Mandarin and they speak Cantonese in Hong Kong.  It is a shorter trip for me from Seattle with only one stop in Tokyo with a quick connection I can be in Hong Kong in about 15 hours. As I said I have either a free ticket on either Cathay Pacific or Northwest, my choice, so all I have to do is pay for her air fare which is under 1K round trip.

My son will trave with me as he has done two times in the past when I have met RW. You might think that crazy of me but by doing this it really adds two opportunities. One, he gets to see the world and spend some time with is dad. Two, he gets to meet her and she him. One of the two times she did not like him nor he her so that told me something. The next time he had met her, a different one, whe she visited me here in Seattle. They liked each other. This time niethe will have met so we begin again new.

Thanks   Peewee
